Re: Youtube testing thread

I dunno, I found a way to embed a youtube video (notice in your
'post a reply' box there is now a youtube button) in phpbb3 but I
can't get it to work. The forum I found it on had a bunch of praise
for the instructions ... I'll re-visit the issue soon.

The premise is all is all you have to do is put the video id from youtube
and highlight it like you'd do bold, italics, etc. and click on the new you-
tube button.

We'll figure it out.

Re: Youtube testing thread

You have to do it like the IMG tag, where you put the entire URL address for the video inbetween the tags.

No, you don't.
It's supposed to work with the youtube ID like in my first two posts.

There's a little more to it than you might imagine, I think.

When I try to post videos, it gives me some forbidden "H-Sphere" message.

Re: Youtube testing thread

I've tried a couple of variations of setting this up, with no success.
Maybe there's another step or something else that needs to be turned
on when setting up a custom bbcode?

Also, now when I preview most posts like the first post in this thread
I get two error lines up top ...

[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/message_parser.php on line 69: preg_match(): Empty regular expression
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/message_parser.php on line 69: preg_match(): Empty regular expression

... and the font size of everthing on the page double or triples?

I think this place is spooked :-)

This page (www.lifehacker.com.au/2007/08/adding_a_ ... _phpbb3_1/) suggests a different and shorter "HTML Replacement" than you've got in there. Mebbe try that?

Seems fitting. The way this season has gone, I sometimes think Citi Field is haunted or something.

Re: Youtube testing thread

Thanks Edge, that lifehacker one is one of the ones I've tried.
There's a couple of them on the phpbb boards too, and in each
case there are people who sing it's praise but I can't get any of
them to work. Maybe when Ben is around he'll have an idea or two.

KC, I greatly appreciate the work and effort you and the other moderators/adminstrators put into keeping the CPF up and running in as user friendly a manner as possible.

Especially Ben G, there was no way I could have done
or dealt with what he did last week.

I feel like Michael Corleone in Part lll. Hopefully I won't
have a diabetic stroke and my cyber-sister won't start
ordering hits.

Re: Youtube testing thread

The reason this isn't working is the same "http" issue.

I set up the bbCode to use the exact syntax that YouTube generates for embedding. I even managed to get the http string to save in the definition. But when I use the tag, and then try to view the post, the HTML that the server sends strips out the http.

If each of the www.youtube.com references, above, were prefixed by "http" then "://" it would work. But that particular string causes problems coming and going, and it seems to be limiting what we can do.

I'll call them tomorrow and see if I can bump up the importance of
our 'bbbyyy disabled by an H-Sphere administrator' problems.

Thanks to everyone for their patience.

Re: Youtube testing thread

I've spent hours on this, and can't think about it today.
I will say, the best results are when we use the match
and replace fields -- over my head, that's Grimm territory.
Valad, bring this down to the GW computer lab and get
them working on it pronto!

first_pass_match
!\[table\](.*?)\[/table\]!ies
first_pass_replace
'[table:$uid]'.str_replace(array("\r\n", '\"', '\'', '(', ')'), array("\n", '"', ''', '(', ')'), trim
('${1}')).'[/table:$uid]'
second_pass_match
!\[table:$uid\](.*?)\[/table:$uid\]!s
second_pass_replace
${1}
