I think there is to much being made of Manuel needing to sit players that make mistakes , he needs to field a team guys.

bmfc: If you make three mistakes in one inning, you stay in Jerry's lineup. <<< Jeez, maybe he's giving him a chance to play himself out of next year's starting lineup. I don't really think he will be (or want) Jerry to be at the helm next year but don't people get tired of banging the same drum night after night?
don't people get tired of banging the same drum night after night?[/quote:3szaor83] A variation in results would probably inspire different rhythms. Otherwise, sixteen more games for which the drum will bang slowly.

It was nice of them to hold off on starting the game until I got home from Back to School Night.

Fuck. Tie it up and gack it back by giving up a nice big inning. Ditto that thought on whether we'll win again in '09.

Look, I'll admit I missed the whole game-getting-out-of-hand thing while watching Project Gayway, but I was tuned in earlier to see Jerry demand a sac bunt of Figgy with 1st and 3rd and 1 out and knew after that we'd deserve whatever was coming to us.

Re: IGT--Mets @ Braves, 09/17/09

Because trying to win games --- even if that means returning to a player who wrecked you the night before --- is a manager's professional obligation.

Re: IGT--Mets @ Braves, 09/17/09

By that logic, you'd make a great college football coach. You'd let the players that skipped curfew or classes keep playing out of obligation to winning. Your argument would have more credence if the games mattered but they do not. There's no sense of accountability in the Mets organization. The manager can't manage, the General Manager is incompetent, and the players stay in the lineup no matter how much they screw up (even the heralded PR guy can't stop the GM from making an idiot of himself at a press conference). Maybe a night watching someone else play first would have been beneficial to Murphy. And BTW, how'd the Mets do with Murphy in the lineup?
By that logic, you'd make a great college football coach.

I have zero interest in college football.
You'd let the players that skipped curfew or classes keep playing out of obligation to winning.
He played poorly. He didn't rape anybody.
Your argument would have more credence if the games mattered but they do not.
Really? You'd make a great college football coach.
There's no sense of accountability in the Mets organization.
Accountablity for moral failures and physical failures are very very different things.
The manager can't manage,
I'm not impressed either, but I'm not sure where benching the guy a night after a poor performance with the glove is automatic.
the General Manager is incompetent,
That's a trickier case to make.
and the players stay in the lineup no matter how much they screw up
When you're fielding a team full of replacements, it's hard to continually dig deeper. I realize that Evans could have been run out there, but it's not like Murphy was playing first poorly every night or that there isn't an argument for giving him a chance at some measure of redemption, a chance that he made good on.
(even the heralded PR guy can't stop the GM from making an idiot of himself at a press conference).
This is a huge huge non-sequiter. I thought we were talking about Murphy.
Maybe a night watching someone else play first would have been beneficial to Murphy.
Maybe indeed. It's just not such a no-brainer as all that.
And BTW, how'd the Mets do with Murphy in the lineup?
Come on, don't play the fallacy of the part and the whole. I'm not an idiot. The Marlins lost last night with Ramirez in the lineup. The Sox started Pedroia and lost. The Tigers lost with Cabrera batting fourth. We all know that the fact that the team lost certainly doesn't discredit every decision the manager made that night. The Mets have had a horrible season because all of their best players have gotten hurt. Not because the manager refuses to bench players after bad games.

Manuel sat Pagan for a few games , some might say finally but he did sit him.
