Why did they pill Maine? Just going slow as a precaution?

Two rules NOT to break after being handed a 6-run lead in the 9th inning: Rule 1) bring the tying run to the plate Rule 2) see Rule 1 Fortunately we had those tack-on runs earlier. The 8th & 9th innings of this game really slammed the brakes on what had been a quickly moving gig.

The game went 2:57, but I wonder how much of that was the last inning. Maine really has a chance to influence the Mets offseason plans if he shows nearly as much in his next start. Only one strikeout, however.

Absolutely roasted in this one. We sat 5 rows behind Angel Pagan in punishing sunlight. The only bonus of the 9th inning taking so long was that it allowed the shadows to finally reach us. Lousy timing for Wright to have a bad day, we were sitting in prime RH-hitting HR territory but all the action for both teams this day was to RF. Went outside afterward for the run around the bases only to find the line, starting by the chop shops, went all the way to Roosevelt and around the corner beneath the subway train. So we went to Flushing for weird food instead.

The line for the running-the-bases thing actually moves pretty quickly, one it gets started. You have to stand out there for a while while they set up the field. (They put up barriers so you can't step on the grass.) But as I said, once it gets moving they're pretty efficient about keeping it going. I made my second (and final, for 2009) visit to Citi Field on September 5. We were in the center field seats (section 141) and we bailed from that section in the second inning. Since the stadium was half empty, we were able to move around a lot, and sampled the ballpark from a variety of shady seats.

No roasting in the left field Promenade. I had fun sitting with my older son (not a baseball fan, but he enjoyed his first trip to Citi Field), Kase, G-Fafif and dgwphotography. Thanks for stopping by Lunchie - it was good seeing you :) Nelson Figueroa signed my giveaway car before the game. G-Fafif dubbed it the Figgy Mobile - It was a great day to be at the ballpark. I couldn't have been in better company to witness the Mets clinching 4th place.

It will be awhile before I forget members of our row chanting, "we're number four, we're number four."

I watched not a second of this one. Was too busy watching my beloved first place New York Jets dominate their way past New England.

The final out of the game - the umpire is just getting ready to pull back his arms to announce Strike Three -
