IGT 9/26/09: NYM-FLA in wake of USF 17 FSU 7

Biggest sports day the state of Florida has ever known. First, your University of South Florida Bulls stampede on up to Tallahassee and upset the No. 18 Florida State Seminoles 17-7 in their first meeting ever. Then Jerry Manuel makes out this lineup card at Your Name Here Stadium in Miami Gardens: Pagan LF Castillo 2B Wright 3B Beltran CF Francoeur RF Tatis 1B Santos C Hernandez SS Maine P Much like victorious QB B.J. Baker was last year, Nick Evans is redshirted for this season. As long as we can get another look at Tatis. Let's Go Mets! Let's Go Bulls!

Maine is looking "perturbed" on the mound, according to Gary, Keith and Ron, who go on to opine that it looks like he has flu-like symptoms. In the bottom of the second Maine loaded the bases, Castillo bobbled a possible double play ball and there was a wild pitch/passed ball. 2-0 Fish after two.

Re: IGT 9/26/09: NYM-FLA in wake of USF 17 FSU 7

Gary, Keith and Ron are complaining of being crowded in their tiny booth, and are envious of all of the space that Howie has in the radio booth. Howie is shrugging at the camera confusedly, wondering why he's on camera. As silly as all of this is, it's still more entertaining than the game....

[url]http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/09/elias-rankings-update-4.html Tatis is actually just on the good side of type B status. I say play him every day. (PS Schneider is as well, and if THAT doesn't tell you the system needs to be reworked...)

Speaking of Tatis, his 2-run homer tied the game.

Maine just hit Cody Ross in the wrist, and Ross is out of the game.

Wright's RBI double drives in Pagan and gives the Mets a 3-2 lead in the 5th.

I think that was one of the worst things we've seen this season. Bad baserunning by two runners at the exact same time. I can't believe it.

Ridiculous. Wright, whom I do love, didn't hustle. Francouer was out at 2nd before Wright crossed the plate, so his run didn't count. Damn!

Re: IGT 9/26/09: NYM-FLA in wake of USF 17 FSU 7

I know that fantasy is verboten here, but tough: I'm fighting for 1st, I have Wright and Francouer, and that cost me a run and an RBI.

Oh Fuckshit! Maybin, who came into the game to replace Cody Ross, just homered to give the Fish a 7-3 lead....

Hey, Fredi Gonzalez, for going to the bullpen here, and playing for the save rather than the win, I declare that I will never hire you to manage my team. Hah!

But Wright and Beltran outdo him by refusing to take a strike with the tying run behind them in the ninth. It's madness. But it's not "House of Fun" Madness.

[quote="Benjamin Grimm"][quote="themetfairy"]Francouer was out at 2nd before Wright crossed the plate, so his run didn't count.

I think I've seen that happen before, but I can't remember when. It's been a loooong time. It's not the rarity of the play that makes this one so horrible, it's that Wright should have scored easily but didn't solely because he got lazy. And as much as we rag on the Jeter-ites in booths and in newspapers who treat him as if he can summon up magic on demand, this is absolutely a screw-up he'd never make. Also the boys in the booth screwed up a bit on their analysis. Wright didn't get a bad break because he failed to realize there were two outs (as G, K & R insisted) but rather because he was dodging the line drive. The slow start wasn't the problem -- the problem was after he rounded 3rd when he just dropped it to near walking speed without ever even taking a glance at what Francoeur was up to. Even a quick glimpse and he would have known to run through the bag. Even at half-speed he makes it easily. Francoeur's gamble in going for a double wasn't the best move he ever made but the fact that Wright didn't score isn't on him, it's strictly on David.
