Jack Egbert, RHP

Mets claimed Jack "The Walrus" Egbert on waivers, continuing their twin traditions of collecting pitching prospect flops from the White Sox organization and giving every player from the NY area a shot on their way down.

He's a Staten Island guy out of Rutgers U, 26 years old, and at one time at least was considered a comer with the White Sox. Had a brief go with them this year, butafter 2 bad outings was sent down and replaced ... by Lance Broadway ...

I made up the nickname but I kind of like it.

I first read this as

Jack Egbert, RIP

Course I had idea who it was that died.

I just can't see a guy named Egbert making in the show.

Can you explain, in detail, your methodology in coming up with that nickname?

Royce Ring and Lance Broadway

Nelson Figueroa and, um... well, Egbert, I guess.

Could this be the elusive 54th Met?

Re: Jack Egbert, RHP

Egbert, 26, had made two relief appearances for the White Sox in April, and allowed eight runs on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Hey, he fits right in! All he needs to do is grab him hammy and get helped off the field.

Re: Jack Egbert, RHP

My sister had this modestly amusing book when we were kids. Eggbert made droll comments regarding life in the womb. And while I'm pretty sure I haven't thought about Eggbert in well over 35 years, I must confess that I never quite got the play on words in the name until...now.

Would probably be viewed as a political statement now instead of a cute comic.

Shingo Takatsu. I guess he wasn't a prospect but he was new to them and well thought of at one time too.

The NY tradition is very long and includes everyone from Bob Aspromonte to Ron Villone.
