Re: Barack! I voted for you!

To be clear to others reading, someone registered as the prez. I just deleted it because of the email address and because I don't have the patience for joke posters right now. We have some bugs we're working on, have to come up with a registration policy again, and some stuff doesn't work. That's the focus here ... not entertaining joke posters, anyone looking to sell something, or anyone trying to make some other point now that the doors are slightly more open again.

He was probably just here to make a speech that would indoctrinate us.

Journalistic ethics are dead. It was on BACKGROUND for crying out loud.

'On background' generally refers to a pre-agreement between the parties that a specific quote will not be used even though the general thrust of the remark can be reported: "The White House expressed disapproval of Mr. West's on-stage outburst" But Obama's off-the-cuff remark given while they were in the process of setting up for a more formal interview wasn't anything of the sort. He just realized too late that there were other media-types in the room and that he'd rather not have that statement get out. Not that some network employee 'Twittering' the remark for gossip appeal was a high moment in journalistic history, but asking those who heard something you just said not to repeat it after it's already been uttered is not the same as reneging on a promise of anonymity. Besides, how can it hurt anyone to be heard calling Kanye a jackass? Is he going to lose the 14 y/o hip-hop fan vote?

It's funny to hear that ABC is destroying journalistic ethics by behaving like the new media that has been eating their lunch.

I don't see anything wrong with reporting that, if you don't want something reported don't tell it to a reporter (barring explicit agreement beforehand that they wont publish it.)
