Arthritis Fucking Sucks

Feeling the need to vent... the swelling in my fingers currently prevents me from playing the guitar.

Oldest disease known to man. I broke my left index finger earlier this summer and it still hurts like hell when I play guitar for more than five minutes. The upside is now I have an excuse for sounding terrible.

You seem a little young to have arthritis pain that prevents you from doing things. I hope it's not the beginning of that scary kind.

Fman, I have it too, in my toe from an old injury and it's killing me lately. The worst part is that I will soon have to abandon my flip flops. I've been wearing slippers at work all summer cos the a/c makes my feet cold! Been seeing a foot doctor, so far not much luck. Makes me feel a little better (sorry :( ) that a young person like you has it. Well, not better. You know what I mean. I hope.

I have psoriatic arthritis, arthritis that is associated with psoriasis. My psoriasis is minor - a few spots on my scalp that you wouldn't normally notice. So that's a plus. Psoriatic arthritis is similar to rheumatoid and other forms, with a notable exception being that it happens asymmetrically. So I have swelling in some fingers and not others. Plus, pain in my ankles, my right knee, and often my neck and back, that comes and goes. Tough to know when it will get better or worse. Right now, my left index finger is swollen up like it was slammed in a car door. Can't bend it or make any attempts to play with that finger. I am on several medications, both prescription and OTC. One involves injecting it into my own stomach, which is a real treat. The good part is, theoretically, that the arthritis could move to some other extremities and I could get my guitar mojo back at some point down the road. My grandfather, who gave me my first guitar when I was 18, had to stop playing altogether in his 60's due to rheumatoid athritis. I do know what you mean Coob. Knowing other people going through what you are does make it better. I figured this would bring out the other arthritis folks, too, as the CPF has a healthy range of members in terms of age.

I have noticed that the medicine he gave me, (it makes me sick though) seems to have taken care of some pain I've had in my elbow for literally decades. So I guess that's good. Fman, I hope you feel better soon and can go back to what you love doing!

My godmother had that rheumatoid arthritis in both her hands. By the time she was in her 60's her hands looked like this:
