Because I was born in December, of course. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1253565 ... =yhoofront Too long to post, but it's a fascinating article discussing studies that show babies born in winter months tend to do worse on intelligence exams. Here, they're suggesting that there's a correlation between season of birth and other socioeconomic factors that might influence intelligence (or maybe just the ability to do well on intelligence exams). I'll save you the trouble because I checked...Angel Pagan was born on July 2. So there's got to be some other explanation.

In my schooling, december kids were among the oldest in their respectve grades. As a late september kid myself, I was always the youngest, as the cutoff for the next grade was october. I don't know if there a benefi to being the youngest or oldest in a grade, tho I suspect that's the heart of the article's correlation. Luckily, minimarathon'll be a fall birth, unless he's a dozen days late, so he'll be a smarty!

my assumption about the article was wrong. and the article itself is very interesting. the heart of the article is this chart: the increased incidence of unwed births, teen births, and births to lesser-educated mothers in the winter, specifically january, versus the rest of the year, is postulated to be the cause in the observed statistical dumbness of winter babies. so, whew. minimarathon is even safer. not only should he be a fall birth, but his mother is neither unwed, a teenager, nor uneducated. the article didnt delve into why there was an increase in teen, unwed, uneducated births in january. i'm thinking it might have something to do with prom night. although i think most proms are in may, right, and the january peak correlates with april nookie. are teens having extra sex in april to get ready for prom? or is it that the married smart women or their husbands, are too stressed out by tax day to effectively procreate, causing their decrease relative to the dumb teens? hmm...

My kid is an October baby. We're redshirting her kindergarten year so she's bigger than the rest.
