Did the ESPN crowd leave the stadium yet or are they still at their on-location desks talking about Favre?

Those of you who had "6:32" in the "First Mention of How This Will Save Detroit" pool, step up and collect your TARP prize.

THis is great. I realize this makes me sound like a MFY fan, but I'm rooting for 25 innings.

Inge saves game (maybe) with his glove and then puts the Tigers up w/a 2-out 2B Good player Inge ... stupid tattoos.

Lotta fun, Tigers go ahead in the 10th. I'd like to see the Hefty Bag Brigade tie it again and take it to 11.

Frayed Knot Oct 06 2009 06:52 PM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
Obviously more than a bit of luck involved there but Cuddyer's been getting HUGE hits for the Twinkies for weeks now.

Might be better than that epic Colorado-San Diego tilt from 2 years ago in Game 163.

Game 163s have become rather common in the last few years, haven't they?
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Oct 06 2009 07:05 PM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
I'd be OK with it if Selig came out now and announced the winner of this game wins everything and it's all over tonight.
|
Kong76 Oct 06 2009 07:06 PM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
Poor production, stuff going on and innings ending while they're showing replays and stuff.

Later[/quote:3l7pnzvg] Bang bang, but not arguably* close. Line drive to left playing shallow, strong one-hop throw. Runner seemed to be still turning around to get his footing at the instant he should have started, it definitely made a difference. * close enough for the O to argue.

Gawd, one after another.

Keppel wins it as Gomez scores the winning run. Met Power!!

Frayed Knot Oct 06 2009 07:50 PM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
I didn't like the prospect of seeing the Tigers go to Yanqui stadium with Verlander not available until game 3 and closer Rodney fried for who knows how long.

I think if I were running things, that would be a club soda type celebration. Tomorrow afternoon is gonna come real quick with a plane ride in between.

Edgy DC Oct 06 2009 08:09 PM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
Kepple --- from minor league free agent to hero. Except in Detroit, where he mercilessly destroyed an entire city.
|
Fman99 Oct 06 2009 08:20 PM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
Detroit gives Mets fans a reprieve... it's petty, and I don't know any Tigers fans, but it's nice to have some OTHER team shit themselves the last week and choke away a playoff spot instead of watching us do it.
|
Frayed Knot Oct 06 2009 08:57 PM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
Tiggers blew a 7-game lead with 26 to go. Not quite as bad as Mets '07, but it's getting there. Of course the Detroiters didn't help their case by blowing several separate leads in the play-in game.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Oct 06 2009 10:06 PM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
Stopped in at a pub near work just after work to catch the end of it... and ended up staying for three hours. Hell of a game. And it's a nice reminder of how great a game this is, when it's not carrying the freight of audience expectations, unmet expectations, and various/sundry what-ifs. I look forward to the Sabathia walkakke.

They were the first team in MLB history to do that.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Oct 07 2009 08:50 AM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
In his defense the ball was hit hard and right to a guy playing shallow. Usually the runner has that extra moment he took to get his footing proper before taking off.
|
The Second Spitter Oct 07 2009 08:55 AM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
Maybe. After seeing on the replay it almost seemed he was so focused on tracking the ball that he lost his bearings along the base path.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Oct 07 2009 09:12 AM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
Oh, he prolly did. Anyway, the Tigers really coughed that one up, even if they caught a break on the Inge HBP.
|
Frayed Knot Oct 07 2009 02:50 PM Re: IGT 10/06, Tigers at Twins (all marbles game) |
In addition to all the comebacks in yesterday's game, and all the ground made up on Detroit over the last 2-3 weeks, the Twins had to overcome two of the worst 'beats' you'll see in one season. - The 'Worst. Call. Ever.' game First they manage to blow a 12-2 lead, then they apparently re-tie the game only to be screwed by a game-ending horrid call. * CPF discussion * Boxscore - and the Joe Nathan meltdown of a few weeks back where, with a 2-run lead, he gets the first two outs of the 9th inning before giving up back-to-back HRs followed by two walks He was then yanked and his replacement allowed the inherited runs to score -- Boxscore Both of those were the type of game where you said at the time that if they lose the division by 1 game THIS is going to be the one that haunts them
