I voted Dodgers, but... ick. Torre or LaRussa? Manny or Pujols? I just hope the Rockies roll right over whoever wins this series.

Not enthused about many of the teams this year. I do think if the Cardinals win this series they likely win it all. hard to root for them to win it all given their success and 2006, but I also like them as a team that could take down the Phillies or Yankees if either was to advance.

Don't love the Dodgers. Don't love Mother Torresa. My older son has rooted for the Cardinals in the past. I'm going red here.

LaRussa worship, though, sits well with you?

Scoscia vs. Pendleton. Gibson vs. Yadier F. Ugh. Gun to head, it's the Dodgers, if only because I have a low tolerance for sanctimony this fall, and we probably won't hear that much about how great their fanbase is should the team advance.

It would be satisfying to see Torre win a World Series while the
Yanks exit the playoffs early or even get beat by his team in the
World Series.

I don't have any strong feelings regarding either team so I'm just hoping for a good series.

I do think it would be fun to see Torre's Dodgers sweep the Yankees in the series just to watch Hank's head explode. Of course, a quick exit by the Yankees at the hands of either the Twins or Tigers would accomplish the same thing.

Can somebody refresh my memory if Torre has committed any crimes against the Mets? That is, other than his defense of the Antichrist, which under the circumstances, may be excused.

Re: NLDS rooting interest poll: Cardinals-Dodgers

Well he managed them from 1977 to 1981.

No, Torre's worst crime was being an apologist from thugs like Clemens and crying a lot.

He's a good egg in real life I think.

Yes, but let's be honest: St Michael the Archangel could have managed those teams and their record would be have been about the same.

Re: NLDS rooting interest poll: Cardinals-Dodgers

Can't you say that about just about any team, good or bad, throughout baseball's history.

The Mets played over their heads for a decent stretch in 1980. Does Torre deserve credit for that? It's hard to say.

Re: NLDS rooting interest poll: Cardinals-Dodgers

I was only joking about Torre and his culpability for the 1977-81 Metsies.

I'm pretty sure most of the guys who played for Torre on the Mets thought pretty highly of him. He was very respected as a player too. Press liked him, other baseball people obviously did too. He's a HoFer.

But it's a horse race, though, innit?

The unis are one of the few things I like about St. Loo.

Re: NLDS rooting interest poll: Cardinals-Dodgers

Sure, but it's a race the Dodgers tend to win.

Cards get credit for generally keeping the uni count down to two, but one of those two has the blue/black hat and that's wrong.

Re: NLDS rooting interest poll: Cardinals-Dodgers

I'm leaning toward the Dodgers at this moment, although what frequently winds up happening is that I find myself pulling for one side at some point in the series without any conscious moment of when or even why I decided to do so. Sometimes it even changes within a series even if only to root for a longer, more interesting one.

I only have one Must-Not-Win entry in this post-season.
Other than that I just hope to enjoy things and won't otherwise get myself worked up over specific results.

Couldn't TBS have found someone other that Dick Stockton to call games....there must be dozens of pbp guys out there that would be better.

Re: NLDS rooting interest poll: Cardinals-Dodgers

I know he's got a bunch of nominally-qualifying teammates who'll siphon off votes, but even accounting for that, I suspect Matt Kemp will get significantly fewer MVP votes than he deserves.

He's one of the few CFs I'd trade Beltran for, straight-up (at this point in time).

Re: NLDS rooting interest poll: Cardinals-Dodgers

Matt Holliday tries to catch Loney's line drive with his crotch. That had to hurt. Tying run on second with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Casey Blake at the plate for the Dodgers and Juan Pierre pinch running for Loney.

Re: NLDS rooting interest poll: Cardinals-Dodgers

Casey Blake walks and Ronnie Belliard lases a line drive into center scoring the speedy Pierre standing up. Russell Martin up trying to win the game in walk off fashion.

Martin walks to load the bases. Mark Loretta (0-15) against Franklin gets a chance to be a hero.

Soft liner to left center field and the Dadgers win with two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

I guess Matt Holliday should have used his glove on that one. Franklin failed to get anyone out after Holliday's 2 base error.

Re: NLDS rooting interest poll: Cardinals-Dodgers

Wow, that one was a killer.
Newspaper headline suggestion: 'Deft takes a Holliday'

Holliday never was a good fielder although that play was bad even for him. I know he's going to be on the Xmas lists of every team looking for a hitting LFer (hmmmmm) but those doing the drooling just have to realize they're not getting an all-around complete player. He's not a particularly good base-runner either.
Of course Ryan Franklin deserves a few lumps here too. He faces three more batters after that and got NONE out. I blame the beard.

At least this game was a much more crisply played game than the 1st one. Game one went just shy of 4 hours even though only a 5-3 score and 8-1/2 innings. The two teams combining for [u:whsfv1ls]30 LOBs[/u:whsfv1ls] didn't help to speed things along any.

Matt Holliday does to the Cardinals playoff hopes the same thing that the baseball did to Matt Holliday.

Maybe this drops-- or at least hedges-- Holliday's asking price? (Like an inverse Beltran-in-2004.)

Dodgers up 4-0 in the 7th. That L.A. are doing this with Padilla tonight and Kershaw and Wolf before him is startling.

Can't say I'm upset at seeing the Cards watch someone celebrate on their turf as they're swept out by the LA Torre's in three straight.
Bad game one for Carpenter, bad game two for closer Franklin and rental Holliday, plus a non-dominate series from Prince Albert (several pitch-arounds)
