I know that I'd like to see it happen.

A starting pitcher and a left-fielder. That's my offseason wish list.

I found this line from that bit hilarious.....

But as one AL scout said of Lackey yesterday, "He's good and he's tough. From what I know about the Mets, Lackey's a guy who could make a difference there."

Harper's got to be making this stuff up....

Lackey wouldn't make any difference whatsoever with, say, Houston?

Surely you realize, Vic, that such "must" articles are written just to make a team look like chumps if they don't listen to the columnist.

i wonder if he's going to have a beltran-like post season, and command crazy money...

i don't care why it was written. I do know that even the most cursory glance at the FA list makes Lackey the #1 "must get" this off season, even more than Holliday.

Naturally, if said player goes el-stinko, you don't see the columnists writing the "I guess the professional baseball talent evaluators are better at this than I am" pieces.

Oh, I'd love to find all the New York writers who demanded the Mets sign Manny and ask them what they think about that now.

He will, likely over the course of a 5-6 year deal.

If that's the case, he will not be a smart investment.

well, the dodgers are in the playoffs... i bet its all because of manny being there.

and, uh... he is OPSing 0.949 this season. yeah, its only 101 games, but still damned good. not worth all the coin, but still pretty good.

But they still wouldn't be above hanging the Mets for the disgrace he brought with him.

Lackey is very good when healthy. His low IP total the last two seasons concerns me though, especially if he's likely to get more than Lowe got. I'm interested, but I'd like to see how the market develops.
