Dicky Gonzalez spits the bit, but Termel Sledge gets the last word.

Re: Japanese Post-Season

Sledge, who played for the Expos, Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres before coming to Japan in 2008, hit 27 homers and had 88 RBIs for the Fighters, who finished first in the Pacific League.

It can't say anything good about pitching over there when Sledge has 27 home runs and 88 rbi. I remember him as a glove guy and speedster.

Although having said that his '04 season was good and surprised me.

269/.336/.462 with 15 home runs and 62rbi

Sadly, they're only "The Fighters." Nippon Ham is the company that owns them.

I was disappointed when I learned this!

Yeah, I was too. "Ham Fighters" is such a cool and nutty name.

Remember when it looked like Northern Virginia might get a baseball franchise? (Instead it went to the Washington Nationals.) I was hoping the team, if it came to be, would be called the "Virginia Ham Fighters."

You can tell me this and it may be factually accurate but I will continue to pretend otherwise. They fight ham, why can't you accept that?

By the way, I have added that to the long list of male masturbatory metaphors in use that involve mistreatment of meat. Beating meat, choking chickens, etc.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be in the men's room, fighting my ham.

Speaking of silly names, the new Richmond, VA AA team (Atlanta dropped them as a AAA team a year back) will be the 'Flying Squirrels'
