FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A homemade balloon aircraft landed in a Colorado field after a 6-year-old boy was seen climbing in. Rescue crews surrounded the balloon. The child's fate was unclear. The balloon traveled for more than two hours. Cathy Davis of the Larimer County Sheriff's Department told reporters the balloon was owned by the boy's parents and tethered behind the family's home. She said two sons were playing outside when the older boy saw the younger one go into a compartment at the bottom of the balloon and fly away. The balloon was airborne for more than two hours.

Yeah, I hate it when Jr. goes into our helium balloon without asking. WTF? This is nutty. Veterans of a Reality Show, apparently.

Re: Childhood nightmare

You would think if there were a parent that had a homemade helium aircraft ready to fly in or around the house, they would teach their kids not to go anywhere near it. There are so many things about this story that are totally idiotic. On edit: Per CNN - Parents Richard and Mayumi Heene were featured on the 100th episode of the ABC program "Wife Swap."

True, but kids don't always obey what their parents teach them.

Re: Childhood nightmare

the kid is 6 years old, which imo makes this a supervision issue not an issue of teaching the kid not to touch the balloon as it would be with say a 12 year old. you wouldnt leave a 6 year old alone with a motorcycle with the keys in the ignition so why would you with this?

Speculation in the newsroom is that the tyke fell out at some point. What a shame.

Re: Childhood nightmare

Doesn't seem to be a case of the kid falling out of the balloon's 'basket' as much as it is that the basket itself began the journey attached but didn't end that way.

Hiding in a box in the garage, actually. I get the feeling that little Falcon is going to be featured on the first edition of the new ABC reality show, "Kid Swap".

Are you kidding? Did they really find him at home? This is beyond bizarre, but I am glad he's okay, if he is. Except for the family part, that is.

Re: Childhood nightmare

Seen getting into an unmoored, unattended balloon, then he's gone... and all of a sudden, he's in the attic? It's not bad parenting... It's an ILLUSION.

I think it's possible that he ran and hid in the attic upon realizing that his name was 'Falcon'

Re: Childhood nightmare

What a family , from a News article today
Falcon said during an interview on CNN last night he could hear his family calling for him as hid in the attic. "You did?" Mayumi Heene said. "Why didn't you come out?" his dad said. "You had said that we did this for a show." Pressed to clarify what his son meant, Richard Heene became irritated and said he didn't ask his son to explain. Earlier in the day, Richard Heene snapped when asked if the affair was a publicity stunt. "That's horrible," he said.

It has been determined that this is a hoax, that it was a publicity stunt and we believe we have evidence at this point to indicate that this was a publicity stunt in hopes to better market themselves for a reality show," Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden told reporters at a press conference.

He could get together with Jon Gosselin in the new show Douche Dads.
