NBA 2009 - 2010 Season

Since there was a post in "Answer/Ask" that mentioned Mike Antonini and the Knicks, it must be time to start our annual NBA thread. My Nets have yet to win an exhibition game, and that 0 - 6 start may be a very accurate indicator of the season. They haven't had a rebounder since Buck Williams.(I mean one who hasn't shot somebody) They haven't had a shooter since Drazen Petrovik. They haven't had a chance since they went to the finals a few years ago. After a year of rooting for the Mets, I now root for the Nets. I also enjoy seff-flagellation. Those of you who follow the NBA, who do you root for? Why? Later

Not a huge fan, but when I follow, I root for the Celtics. I grew up in upstate (we call it Central) New York. No MSG, no local team. CBS used to play the Celtics, Lakers or Sixers games so everyone fell into one of those camps.

Knicks fan but not expecting anything from them.....nothing....'62 , I saw that the Nets might look to play in Newark starting next season until they move to Brooklyn.

Re: NBA 2009 - 2010 Season

If they want out of the Meadowlands and go to Newark, I hear it could cost them $9 million to break the lease.(Unless the State says OK). But if they move directly to Brooklyn, they have a no cost escape clause. We'll see what happens. Later

Huge Clipper fan. Rightly no one here gives a shit, but you should all become familiar with the name Blake Griffin. He's the rare combo of awesome and humble, should be the runaway ROY, and is gonna probably maybe help get the Clips back to the playoffs.

I was a Knicks fan in the 1990s but stopped following the game a long time ago. The behavior of the league's worst 10% turned me off from the whole thing. Up where I am college b-ball is king.

The Brooklyn Nets are going to happen, and they're going to be huge. You'll love 'em but a big part of you will hate 'em too.

Ouch.

[quote="Centerfield":1l8nnjlo]Not a huge fan, but when I follow, I root for the Celtics.[/quote:1l8nnjlo] Me too. I was never much of a basketball fan growing up, but my dad brought home a Celtics yearbook one year in the mid-80s from a business trip to Boston, and I got hooked from there on that Bird/McHale/Parish/Ainge/DJ lineup. Paid close attention through the Reggie Lewis years, but haven't actually watched more than a few minutes of a game (of the Celtics or any NBA team, really) since then.

On the bright side, I fell into 2 VIP tix for tomorrow night's home opener vs. the Suns. Not sure what VIP means, but Penny Marshall better be involved one way or another.

I'm thinking of dumping my life long affiliation with the Knickerbockers and just getting the NBA package and watch basketball again without caring who wins. I miss it, I've been sour on it for too many years, and won't rule out becoming a Celtics fan for spite. Thing that sucks is that I gotta pay Cablevision to do it.

The Spurs beat the Hornets by 16 (it wasn't that close), Duncan and Manu played 22 and 24 minutes. Just the way they want it. I enjoy that team.

Re: NBA 2009 - 2010 Season

Thought the Nets game would be a welcome diversion from the World Series. Wrong again. Winning by double digits most of the game, they gave up a game-winning put-back with time running out to lose by two at the buzzer. Yech. Later

I mean unless you're a serious fan of a specific out of town team and you want to get all their games (as many of us would/do for the Mets if not living in the NYC area) it seems to me that with several games per week on TNT, several more on ESPN, the network weekend games which come later in the season, plus all the Knick & Net games you'll get via the local channels, that's a helluva lotta hoops without having to spend an extra dime. And when you throw in how meaningless most of the NBA reg season is ...

Re: NBA 2009 - 2010 Season

I thought the Mets had a disasterous, injury-plagued season. And now the Nets. They haven't won a game yet and only had the league minimum 8 healthy bodies (Calling many of them "players" is a vast overstatement) the other night. How many days is it until pitchers and catchers? Later

Re: NBA 2009 - 2010 Season

And the beat goes on. Another loss with "good effort" last night. I've seen over/under numbers about a team's projected wins before the season. Forget that. I'm guessing the over/under for the number of games in which the Nets will score 100 or more points this year is around 4 1/2. I'm picking the under. With only eight healthy players, and nobody who can sink an outside shot, why aren't the Nets talking to Alan Iverson? Later

And now a new coach. Really new. Kiki has never coached an NBA team. But at least he hired Del Harris to be his bench coach. As they used to say in my old neighborhood, "Gurneicht helfen". (Yiddish for "nothing can help"). Tied the league record for most losses at the start of a season, with Dallas on the horizon. I'm morose. Later

Oh Lord, won't you bring the Nets’streak to an end? Why can’t their affliction strike the teams of my friends? The pain in my gut feels just like the bends. Oh Lord, won't you bring the Nets’streak to an end? Oh Lord, when will I next see them win on TV?. The record for losses in a row is about twenty-three. This gut-wrenching streak is wearing on me. Oh Lord, when will I next see them win on TV?. Oh Lord, when will I smile and not frown? I want the game highlights to get me up and not down. I realize they’re gunning for the first pick in each round. Oh Lord, when will I smile and not frown? . Oh Lord, won't you bring the Nets’streak to an end?
