Well, here it is. The World Series matchup that most of us didn't want to see.

For whom do you root?

This is easy.

No way I could ever pull for a team that has tormented me my entire life.

The Phillies fans are insufferable idiots, now they're our insufferable idiots. And if they can take down the bastard Yankees, then they're actually doing our bidding. The enemy of my enemy is my new best friend. Tip you cap, enjoy a pulled pork sandwich and start counting the days until pitchers and catchers report.

There's always a chance Pedro will throw Joe Girardi to the ground.

No brainer. Phillies.

1) Never, I mean never, root for MFYs.

2) Always root for NL over AL. No matter what.

3) Other than the past few years, I've never given a rats ass about the Phils, their fans. Nothing. Their history is worst than ours, and they've been at it a century longer. They were never even our rivals until this team came along.

4) As far as the fans, fuck the fans. One group will be crying in a week. I choose to carry that into another long winter.

That is a great point. Unlike intra-division rivalries in college sports and the NFL, or even a "histories are forever intertwined" thing like Yankees-Red Sox or Giants-Dodgers, the intra-division, and even intra-league, rivalries are very transitional.

Can you believe that almost 20 years ago the PIRATES were where the Phillies are now with the Mets? Sure the Mets and Cards have played each other in NLCSs twice this decade, but was there a hint of any of the sheer hatred from the mid-1980s?

Right now its the Phillies, but a few years from now it could be the Marlins, or heck it could be a team like the Rockies after meeting the Mets a few times in a short time frame in the postseason.

Unless one franchise moves, or MLB shuts down its operation, the MFY will always be the Mets #1 rival. The #2 one is always an ever changing team.

So, GO PHILLIES!

Was it Sal/Sabermetric/whatever else he called himself that never forgave Tug for his 1980 parade remarks?

I guess to some, those remarks did not hit the intended targets, as Tug had said that he was really talking about the media, and not the fanbase.

This whitewash will do nothing to stem the irritating flow of media stories portraying we Met fans as pathetic, convictionless losers when it comes to choosing sides in this WS.

For Met fans this is a much easier choice than we had a year ago, for example (a 27-6 victory for the Rays).

Re: World Series rooting interest poll: Yankees-Phillies

IL games from this year. All games at YSIII:

Friday May 22 -- Phils 7 - Yanx 3
The Phils jump out to an early 5-0 lead en route to smacking AJ Burnett and CM Wang around for 14 hits.
HRs for Werth, Rollins, Ruiz (all off Burnett) & Ibanez (Wang).
Starter Brett Myers gives up 3 runs late before giving way to Ryan Madson who pitched a perfect 9th.
Game Time = 2:33

Saturday May 23 -- Yanx 5 - Phils 4 (Happ vs Pettitte)
John Mayberry Jr - playing in his MLB debut - hits a 3R HR off Pettitte in the 5th to break a 1-1 tie (and while FOX was in the process of misidentifying JM Sr. in the stands).
It’s 4-2 heading for the 9th but Lidge coughs up 3 runs while getting only 1 out for the walk-off win: Walk - SB - K - 2R HR (ARod) - 1B - SB - RBI 1B (Cabrera)
HRs: Jeter, Rodriguez, Mayberry, Ibanez
Game time = 2:33

Sunday May 24 -- Phils 4 - Yanx 3 (12 innings) Hamels vs Sabathia
- Sabathia goes 8 allowing 3 runs on 9 hits
- Hamels goes 6 allowing 2 runs before three middle relievers piece together a scoreless 7th & 8th. Again this leads to Lidge in the 9th and again he fumbles the lead, again giving up an RBI 1B to Melky to drive in Cano and tie the game, although he does manage to then get the next three outs and send it into extras.
- In the 11th, Brent Tomko issues Utley a 2-out walk followed by an RBI 2B by Carlos Ruiz. Clay Condrey, who had danced through trouble in the bottom of the 10th, pitches a 1-2-3 bottom 11 for the save.
Game time = 3:58

Re: World Series rooting interest poll: Yankees-Phillies

See, I don't have a problem whatsoever with the Phils. If the Yankees are in the World Series, I don't particularly care if it's the Phils, Astros, Dodgers, or Rockies going against them. The Phils beat the Mets, let them beat everybody.

If a Phillies phan talked shit to me this year, I told him his team were the champions --- congratulations --- and they don't have to talk shit anymore. Talking shit is for also-rans. It created some visible internal conflict for some of them, but I meant it well.
