Soft Rain is Always Drizzling

Bob "Soft Rain" Klapisch just told Steve Somers he was surprised that the Angels made the MFYs work a little in the playoffs. Indeed, it was quite a stunner that a division champion didn't roll over and die at the mere thought of being on the same field as Derek Jeter.

Hard Rain Scioscia said it was a "joke" how many days went by with no baseball

MFY fan calls Somers after Klap leaves and tells us "Metropolitan" fans should be ashamed of themselves because of 9/11 -- we all have to stick together.

See, we all have to stick together is the exact reasoning that makes it so easy for me to root for Philadelphia.

seeing as how philly was, like, a fairly important place during the founding of our nation - you know, that thing that was actually being attacked during 9-11 - i'm inclined to join with edgy.

I remember the WS against Arizona and a Doctor I work with aghast that I was rooting hard for the D-Backs ...." how could you after what happened?"......very easily I said

The 2001 World Series was objectively perfect. The MFY fans got a seven-game "distraction" from all that was going on (that was the line, that this set of baseball games was important because it provided a respite from all the bad news facing New Yorkers/MFY fans, who were mistakenly thought to be the same thing) along with three home wins, two of them breathtaking (or disgusting). The rest of us got a glorious ending. The whole thing lasted seven games and it was chock full of drama. Couldn't ask for a better or longer distraction, more memorable highlights and, at last, a more thrilling conclusion to the dynasty nonsense.

Game six featured a severe beatdown on the Yankees and Game Seven featured four of the best pitchers of their generation (plus Mike Stanton!) and a ninth-inning come-from-behind victory. Thank you, God.

Fall of '01 were crazy times. I remember watching Game 1 with Bubba Sponge on the UWS, the beatdown game with Edgy at the Bull Moose, and game 7 at my local with Tom the Yankee Fan.

Those board wars weren't until later on that winter. In fact it was mostly during the 2001 WS that the CPF was more or less born as a full-time board. It had existed for several months as a retreat board for a select few but it was around the time of the Series that the retreaters just started to hang out on their own and discuss baseball on the nascent CPF rather than just only using it to talk about how tough it was becoming to talk intelligently elsewhere. Which kind of reminds me that I later retroactively assigned November 1st (right in the middle of that 9/11-delayed WS) to be the CPF's unofficial/official birthday - so this weekend will make it 8 years of Cranepooling. The board wars came a few months later when word leaked out about the up-to-then secret board and its subterfuge recruiting efforts. oe: http://thecranepoolforum.yuku.com/topic ... -Pool.html
