It's not just the number of games lost, it's the pct of salaries eaten up by the DL.

Santanny's got to be a meaningful piece of that also. Only five weeks but still.

Interesting. I wonder how that $43,734,000 (geez that's a lot of money) breaks down?
|

Wagner also. I too am curious as to the breakdown.

Carlos Voltron: Deactivated June 22. Cleared to play September 8. Missed 64 games (including three games missed pre-DL stint, not including "rest" games after his return).

The Schneid was out from April 16 through May 30 at $4.9M per year. (40/162)(4.9M) = $1,209,877
|
Benjamin Grimm Nov 16 2009 01:28 PM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
I have Reyes down for $4,574,845 (missed 121 games) and Delgado for $9,333,333 (missed 126 games).

You missed Delgado...
Also, I didn't realize we were taking this to the penny, so I had shorted Delgado by 33 cents and Reyes by 68 cents. That's been fixed, above.

In addition to the players listed above, these Mets also spent time on the DL in 2009:

TransMonk Nov 16 2009 02:05 PM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
Putz earned $6,000,000 but last pitched on 6/4/09 leaving the Mets with 110 games without his services. (110/162)(6,000,000)= $4,074,074.07
|
TransMonk Nov 16 2009 02:09 PM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
Santana earned $18,876,139 but last pitched on 8/20/09 leaving the Mets with 41 games without his services. (41/162)(18,876,139)= $4,777,294.44
|
Edgy DC Nov 16 2009 02:47 PM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
Fernando Nieve called up June 5. They had 52 games behind them and 110 games left. But his contract was a major league one when he was claimed off waivers, so I think the whole season counts toward their payroll.

And we're over $30 million.
Castro stayed off the DL? Classick!
|
Benjamin Grimm Nov 16 2009 02:53 PM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
We're well above that. You're still missing 68 cents from Reyes, and $9,333,333.33 from Delgado.

Ryan Church is a little tricky (but not very) due to the trade. At a salary of 2.8 million, he was traded between games on July 9th and July 11th, meaning he was present for 67 of the team's 162 games, for a Mets salary of $1,158,024.60. He missed 13 games between May 22nd and June 7th, leaving the Mets with $224,691.35 lost to his injury.

David Wright missed 15 games between August 15th and September 1st. At a salary of $7.5 million, this missed time amounts to $694,444.44 in sunk cash.

Alex Cora spent two stints on the DL, missing 13 games in late May and then the final 48 games of the season.

Chad Ochoseis Nov 16 2009 08:23 PM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
Ollie Perez...dl'ed May 3 through July 8. 60 games. (60/162)(12M) = $4,444,444.44, which I think puts us over the top.

We're approaching $49,000,000 --- which kind of throws all the data of this study into question.
John Maine, let's see what you've got.
|
TransMonk Nov 17 2009 08:19 AM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
John Maine made $2,600,000 in 2009. He missed from June 7th thru Sept 12 (89 games). (89/162)(2600000)= $1,428,395.06

Tim Redding first pitched for the Mets on May 18th, missing the first 37 games of the season. With a contract of $2.25 million, the Mets were shorted $513,888.85 worth of Tim's services.

Edgy DC Nov 17 2009 11:10 AM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
We're at $50,537,048.85. A lot of cheese. Martinez, Niese, Pagan, and Sheffield remain.

TransMonk Nov 17 2009 11:15 AM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
I can't seem to find a 2009 salary for R Martinez. He missed 111 games by my count. Anybody know if we paid him?

Number 6 Nov 17 2009 11:16 AM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
I'm wondering if some of the disparity can be explained by disabled days not spent on the actual DL. I know I've been looking at long stretches of missed days; not sure if there's a site that tracks days spent on the official DL by player.
|
TransMonk Nov 17 2009 11:21 AM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
Niese missed 51 games and had a $400,000 salary = $125,925.93
|
TransMonk Nov 17 2009 11:25 AM Re: Games Lost to Injury 2009 |
Well, by our count (as unscientific as it may be), I'm only showing 1298 games lost to injury, while BP is showing "days lost" at 1451. So maybe they're counting off-days as well.

I would guess that most of the guys who would be part of the "disabled but not DL'd" group would be the higher salaried guys, like Delgado and Reyes, so it's possible that we could have less days missed but higher money lost. Not sure how to explain the huge difference in games missed, though.

Wow, I've been back and forth across the internet and can't find Ramon Martinez's salary --- obviously a state secret. Still, great work by everybody and a nice two-inning save by Monk. If we ever find out the Martinez munny, it threatens to put the whole shebang at over $51,000,000
