Other Team HoFs

For reference purposes...

The Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame here. Tom Seaver, Roy McMillan and George Foster are among the members. 2010 class includes Pedro Borbon, Chris Sabo and Tony Mullane. They use a combo fan vote and veterans' committee. FYI, it was the Reds' HOF induction ceremonies in 2008, while the Mets were in town, that led Gary Cohen to riff passionately about how the Mets were dropping the ball.

The Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame is here. Its most recent inductee was Harold Baines. A booster club called the Orioles Advocates plays an active role, with their members as well as media voting. It's housed in the Sports Legends Museum next door to Camden Yards, a very impressive setting. George Bamberger, Frank Cashen, Davey Johnson, Eddie Murray and Ken Singleton have been recognized.

Neither Hall seems shy about inducting new members.

Philadelphia Phillies Wall of Fame, simple but elegant (despite it being the Phillies) is here. Harry Kalas was added in 2009. They've also honored the departed Philadelphia A's. Tug McGraw, Dallas Green, Juan Samuel, Richie Ashburn and Larry Bowa are on the Citizens Bank Park Wall.

I was there! It was our Annual Executive Game. Mets lost, but the next day I went back and the Streak of Shame finally ended.

Anyway, the Reds gave out caps that night, red bill, white top with the wishbone C in front, and Reds Hall logo on the side.

The Reds can have their 75 inductess with the history and all but this is where you'd need to be careful witht he Mets and not end up having a bunch of questionable names in there.

When the Mets are teetering on Hall of Fame overkill, that will be a great day indeed.

Jeez, if you were in charge, even Lute Barnes would get inducted.

That I don't agree with. I can't see the day that the day they induct Don Hahn and Pete Falcone into the Mets HOF as a great day.

Can you guess who is not enshrined in the Reds Hall, but who has memorabilia all over the museum?

No, I don't think that's what I meant. I meant it would be incredible if we went from no inductees for nearly a decade to worrying that there are too many. And if that's where we are in some far-off future, then I'd be an Al Schmelz uncle.

I like both of these options more than what the Mets are looking to do.

Elitest as hell of me, but I prefer the imput of a select panel of fans with proven broadmindedness, self-awareness, and sobriety to an online clickfest.

Part of this is about educating the fans as much as hearing them. I mean, no Met-lovin' kid out there out there has a poster of Jane Jarvis on his wall.

Well, maybe MGiM's kid.

Or they could just consult the CPF ranking project.

NFW. I'd be an Al Swearingen's uncle.
