Mets possibly returning to Hiram Bithorn:

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseb ... _rico.html

Back in the olden days, when the collapsing Expos used HB as its second home park, the Mets were a big deal because they had the highest profile --- though no longer the best --- Puerto Rican star, in Roberto Alomar. Now, Beltran (and possibly a returning Delgado) has got to make the Mets a favorite opponent for a Florida team desperate for a way to draw a crowd.

The problem with that thinking is that the Mets were probably the best draw the Marlins had anyhow.

Re: San Juan

IIRC some of the games at Hiram Bithorn Stadium didn't sell out and after a while the novelty of MLB was gone.

I'd like the opening shot of the telecast to be the statue of Roberto Clemente outside the stadium.

No, but still outsold the Big O, probably. And may outsell a Miami stadium on death row.

Jeffrey Loria, the owner who gets kicked to Puerto Rico.

Re: San Juan

I'm trying to figure out if the Puerto Rico Baseball League season is on now, I'd like to go see a game at Hiram Bithorn while I'm there.(dec.29- jan. 12)

That's true about ticket sales in San Juan versus sales in Montreal.

EDIT

Looks like the season started 11/12

Re: San Juan

The problem with games in PR is that they can't really charge ML prices for the seats, which means that unless they're drawing a lot more people into the stadium it's tough to make it work money-wise.
So, yeah, while they can probably improve on Florida's attendance with a short slate of games there, they'd be doing so by robbing what are likely their best attendance games to start with, not to mention pissing off a lot of FLA-based Met fans to boot.
