Extended Video of Tom Seaver's MLB Debut

From the Alaska Goldpanner's YouTube channel, Tom Seaver becomes a Met, here. Dig the still-unrefined motion, the hustling all over the field and Shea's brief foray into mint green fences.

Cool. Those outfield fences were minty fresh, but destined for a short lifespan.

Lovely.

When was the last time you saw somebody warm up from those circles outside of home plate?

Literally dozens of fans in the ice-creamy field level seats.

Those circles were used in '69 WS, at least by Cuellar before Game Four.

Check out the kind of sportsmanship you just don't see in the 21st century at 7:19.

Betwixt the top and the bottom of the fourth, they show the scoreboard displaying the lyrics of a song that's apparently entitled "Let's Go Mets."

...Three cheers for all the boys that play
'Let's Go, Mets!'
Amazing, yes, they are
BlahBlahBlah
Best in the land by far
BlahBlah 'Let's Go, Mets'

Anybody remember this gem?

Awesome. I also admire the unsold advertising panels.

The '67 Mets were pretty worrisome overall. It was the worst drawing Met team till the late 70s.

Googled it and saw this description here:

In 1964, Shea Stadium opened and their original organist was named Jane Jarvis (too bad Gooding had died, wonder if the Mets would have used her...they had no organist when they played at the Polo Grounds, they played canned music)....Jane Jarvis stayed for a while and wrote a song for the Mets to supplement "Meet the Mets" which went something like this, "The New York Mets are on the way, Let's go Mets"..."Three cheers for all the boys that play, let's go Mets".."Each player is a star, (don't remember the rest of the words)...if you ever get a tape of the 1969 World Series you'll hear that song as the Mets took the field.

"Jane Jarvis will play the Pirates new team song for Pittsburgh rooters in the audience today."

Let's Go Mets
Exciting yes they are
Each player is a star
The best in the land by far they are

Holy crap, batting in the mid innings with a runner on base and he chops at it and runs out an infield hit. A well-deserved warmup jacket handed to him by Yogi Berra.

Re: Extended Video of Tom Seaver's MLB Debut

Five and a third OK (for 1967) innings (2 ER, 4 BB, 6 H, 8 SO) does not cut much ice with the gathering, that doesn't lavish applause on the young not-yet ace as he leaves. That much today would earn a semi-standing O in an MLB debut.

Re: Extended Video of Tom Seaver's MLB Debut

The lineup:

1) Don Bosch, cf (17)
2) Cleon Jones, rf (21)
3) Ken Boyer, 3b (14 --- I guess he was the last to wear the number before Hodges)
4) Ron Swoboda, 1b(!) (4)
5) Tommie Reynolds, lf (16)
6) Jerry Buchek, 2b (1)
7) Jerry Grote, c (15)
8) Bud Harrelson, ss (3)
9) George Feaver, p (41)

Chuck Estrada gets his only Met win of his career in relief. Ron Taylor earns his first Met save.

Two coaches seem to be the only ones giving him the all-important congratulatory stroke on the ass. Yogi, in particular, cops a meaningful feel.

Re: Extended Video of Tom Seaver's MLB Debut

Check out Grote rolling the ball to the [u:y3xza3ub]1st base side[/u:y3xza3ub] of the mound after the 3rd out. He used to claim that he always left the ball on the far side of the opponents dugout so that their pitcher would have further to walk to get the ball.
He was a real SOB (the good kind).
