2009 CPF Charity Gift Exchange right here!
A Boy Named Seo Nov 25 2009 06:10 PM |
Friends, A fine tradition we've established over many number of years is the CPF Charity Gift Exchange, where participants give the name of a charity they support, we draw names, and then you give a gift of a pre-determined amount to the name of the charity you drew. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy. These are rough times, no doubt. "Tighter than a duck's arse", metirish might even say. But I'm still hopeful you guys wanna keep this thing going for another year and spread a little CPF love around (say it, Fman, I know you want to). Anyway, if you're in, please say so, and include the name of the charity that you'd like to see get a donation. $18 American dollars (or right thereabouts) is the amount we've rolled with in the past. I'd say that's worked just fine. Concur? Thanks, all, and happy holidays.

In recognition and appreciation of the selfless sacrifices made on our behalf by our military personnel and their families, my charity is Fisher House Foundation which provides aid to military families in need. If the charity I receive in the exchange is rated at four stars by the charity navigator, then I pledge to double my contribution to that charity. Upon edit: Link to charity navigator rating and contribution page highlighted above.

I'm going to ask whoever draws my charity to wait a couple of days, if that's alright. I'm still going to raise money for The Tug McGraw Foundation. However, things should be in place soon for me to be able to ask people to earmark donations to count towards my fundraising obligation that will get me into the 2010 NYC Marathon. The money will still go to the same place, but it'll count towards the Marathon (think of it as double dipping, if you will). If that isn't too uncharitable, I'd appreciate the support.

OK, beautiful peeps. Sorry again for any delay. I now live in Crazy Town. It's near Long Beach. Using a random list generator from Random.Org, I whipped up a drawing for your charity gift giving convenience. The order was based on when you responded with both a "yay" and a charity, so SJR was #1 and Seawolf, #23. BTW, we still need Mr. Jeopardy's charity, so I'm paging a Wolf, Mr. Sea Wolf, please pick up the courtesy phone or what have you. Also, not sure which link CF wants to use for Starlight, so please let us know the correct online form to use. Well alright, let's get on with it. The drawing:

Seo, excellent job in putting this together. Thanks for the good work. I promised to double the amount for a charity well-rated by Charity Navigator, but since Cooby personally vouched for them $36 has been donated to the Clinton County SPCA. While donating I checked out their mission statement, which is "To prevent the unwanted pets of Clinton County from being turned into Lebanon Baloney." Sounds worthwhile to me.

I sent $10 to Fisher House and set up the monthly $10 per month option. I did this last year and it's a great way to give $120 over the course of a year. I'm also going to continue my $10 per month to last year's draw, The Connecticut Food Bank. I didn't look at all the links, but mine was to Charity Navigator. I made my donation through the Fisher House because the CN site looks to add to your donation and add or deduct four something percent if you don't add and I just thought I'd point that out.

Since I trust his judgement to pick a worthy charity, I have doubled my donation to Degage Ministries. Thank you, David Murray, for your generous donation to Partners In Health. Your gift of $20.00 will help us further our mission of serving the poor in places that bear some of the heaviest burden of disease. To us, health care is more than simply writing a prescription; it is also ensuring that our patients have adequate food, housing, and support, without which the medicines we provide would be ineffective. We will use this donation to continue our work in Haiti, Guatemala, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Boston, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, and Burundi. We remain, as ever, deeply grateful for your gift. Sincerely, Ophelia Dahl Executive Director Partners In Health Partners In Health, a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, has not provided any goods or services, in whole or in part, to you in consideration for this voluntary cash contribution. If you wish to claim the tax deductibility of this gift in the U.S., please retain this acknowledgment letter for your files. Now, what they don't say is that I tagged the donation in honor of "Willets Point," which must have thrown some office worker for a loop. Keep 'em guessing for the holidays! Looks like a fine organization, happy to donate. And Fairy is correct, the diversity of groups is amazing!

Starlight Starbright is a great charity in its own right but it was nice to be able to put this year's donation specifically in honor of someone here's loved one. Great to see that the Baby Miranda fund is now at 628% (!) of it's original goal.

A Child Waits appears to have an old-school Website that doesn't take electronic donations. They may have to wait a few days more while a check arrives through the mail. I'll let you know when it's acknowledged.

DocTee Dec 20 2009 12:45 PM Re: 2009 CPF Charity Gift Exchange right here! |
Thank you, SJR. Grimm: any particular chapter of Make-a-Wish, or should I just direct it to the National (or Intl) foundation?
|
Benjamin Grimm Dec 20 2009 01:31 PM Re: 2009 CPF Charity Gift Exchange right here! |
The national foundation is fine. Or if you want to give it to your local chapter, that's okay too.

Dear Mendoza, I wanted to take a moment to give you my sincere thank you for your support of National Stroke Association. Your generous gift really does make a difference in the ability of our organization to provide services that reduce the incidence and impact of stroke. As the only non-profit agency devoting 100 percent of its efforts to fighting stroke, your donation has enabled us to: Reduce the occurrence of stroke by educating the public about how we all can reduce our stroke risk, Lessening the effects of stroke by educating healthcare professionals about acute stroke treatment, Supporting stroke survivors and their caregivers through our network of over 1,200 support groups, and Investigating promising stroke therapies through our Clinical Trials Acceleration Program and providing research fellowships. None of our efforts would be possible without the support of people like you. While we cannot thank you enough, please know we will always remain commited to the fight against stroke in our country.

Hey Mets Guy In Michigan, thanks for the donation to Partners in Health. A little bit of trivia for you: the Ophelia Dahl who has her name on that email is daughter of the author Roald Dahl and actress Patricia Neal. I made a contribution to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for Seawolf last week, but forgot to note here until now.
