I know these aren't the only possibilities, but what the hell.

I suppose the real question is, if the Mets can only sign one "big guy" would we rather have that be a pitcher or an outfielder?

Oh , that's not fair....of course you didn't put Lackey with Bay....I went with Bay and Piniero .

Pay Bay

Re: I would rather see the Mets sign...

Depends on the money given to the pitchers, of course, but Cameron might be a better player than Bay regardless of contract.

Depends on the money/LENGTH for each. But probably Lackey/Cameron. (This changes a bit if it's Holliday instead.)

I'll take Bay over Cameron in anything beyond one year.

They are close...I wish there were an Albert pujols type LF available.

This years FA crop leaves me cold...

Time for a cocktail

There hasn't been an Albert Pujols-type leftfielder available since... forever, I guess.

Well, there's early-period Pujols.

Re: I would rather see the Mets sign...

Was he ever available? I mean, since he became a Pujols-type Pujols?

I mean, I guess you can say that mythical winter the Sox and the Yanks allegedly constructed a DiMaggio-for-Williams trade, but got cold feet --- I guess a Pujols-type leftfielder was available then. But in a world where the only Pujols-type leftfielders there have ever been were Ted Williams, Barry Bonds, and Stan Musial, none were ever available except Bonds, and that was before and after he was a "Pujols-type" hitter.

And Babe Ruth when he was put in left, but the only times he was "availalble," were again, before and after.

Well, you brought him up first, but:

Fun fact: 2003 was Pujols' best year according to Fangraphs. He was 9.0 (!) WAR and was worth 78.5 runs above replacement with the bat.

In 2002, Bonds was worth 13.3 WAR and 113.9 runs above replacement at the plate.

I love Pujols as much as I can any Cardinal, and I loathe Bonds, but Pujols is no Bonds. Not even close.

EDIT-> Well, Edge, I re-read your post, this time understanding what you actually were saying, rather than what I thought you were saying. And after his 1992 season, Bonds was no Bonds, either. His comparables included his father, Darryl Strawberry, Carlos Beltran, Shawn Green and Jack Clark. So, I think you're right.

Also, there was that time someone was giving away a Manny.
