Four times the Mets finished with losing records in the 2000s. Which was, however you choose to define it, the absolute worst? A little shorthand is included to remind you of the key lowlights, but really each season had plenty of 'em.

2009, just for the clusterfuck of injuries. Every time you blinked there was a new injury.

Even before the cavalcade of injuries, there were about 6 or 7 variants on the wrenching gut-punch loss (with pretty much only the Santos HR Red Sox game on balance). Is there any doubt?

Tough to be objective here, as 2009 is so fresh in my memory. Plus I had zero expectations going in to 03 and 04, and figured out quickly enough in 02 that the team wasn't as good as advertised.

Easily 2009. One gut punch after another. April and May went very well, but June through September was misery upon misery.

And... not that it has anything to do with the Mets, but the postseason couldn't have gone worse. I kept rooting for the Phillies to lose, but they didn't lose until after I had started rooting for them to win. Sheesh!

And don't get me started on "Black Monday!"*
