Continuing to pace back in time, we're looking to choose the Met of the 1980s. The blue and orange-ribbon committee narrowed it down to 25, per the poll limitations. One could probably have narrowed it down to three or four, but what the hell, more names to dig on.

Please consider the seasons encompassed by the decade 1980-89 and disregard to the best of your abilities any overlap any given player had with Mets teams in the '70s or '90s.

The way I see it, there are three deserving candidates: Gooden, Strawberry, and Hernandez. I'd have no quarrel at all with anyone who voted for any of those guys. (And anyone who votes for anyone else is, well, nuts.)

I went with Keith.

I went with Keith, for consistent excellence during the majority of the decade.

I voted for Doctor K. Check this out:

Player A:
W......L.....ERA...ERA+...WHIP...H/9...HR/9...K/BB
100....39...2.64...132.....1.109...7.3....0.5....3.08

Player B:
W......L.....ERA...ERA+...WHIP...H/9...HR/9...K/BB
125....75...2.51...141.....1.057...7.0....0.6....3.34

Okay, so one is Gooden in the 80's. The other's Seaver on the Mets in the 70's. That's pretty damn similar.

Passing up my favorite Met ever to vote for my third-- and original-- favorite.

OE: Was my fifth. Then changed my vote. Then back again. Then back again, again.

Truly a head-exploding decade trying to make a choice at the upper echelon.
