The server has been down since a little before game time - hosting issues
probably still from last weekends maintenance. (at least that's the company
line). Thanks for everyone's patience.

Score is tied 1-1 through four and half. Anyone watching not think that Del-
gado isn't a lazy fucktard who left his rook ss looking dumb please state
your case.

Just got here and just got to the game -- 2-2 in the 8th, Zambrano in.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 20 2005 09:13 PM

knock...knock...Is this thing on?

2-2 in the top of the 8th. Zambrano pitching in relief of Benson.

Sep 20 2005 09:19 PM

Piazza takes a bashing from Conine but holds on for a close tagout as Cornelius "Cliff" Floyd picks up assist #14.

Sep 20 2005 09:21 PM

Hernandez whiffs and his first hit is still an abstraction.

Edgy DC
Sep 20 2005 09:29 PM

So, Beltran supposedly robbed LoDuca of a big hit earlier. Anybody see it?

Edgy DC
Sep 20 2005 09:40 PM

Todd Jones comes on to pitch the ninth for the first time since that ten-run ninth on Saturday.

The Marlins are as loaded with secondbasemen as the Mets. At least they're now on their third secondbaseman of the night.

>>>Anybody see it?<<<

Ran it down, it wasn't as special as F X and Ted made it sound.

Beltran's AB in the ninth was just freakin' depressing ... six more years?

Going to extra innings.

Edgy DC
Sep 20 2005 09:47 PM

Yeah, that stunk.

Whether this is as good as Beltran will be or not, I guess the Mets sort of have to proceed as if this, indeed, is as good as he is.

I'm really curious about batting him second.

KC
Sep 20 2005 09:58 PM

He ain't no number 3 as is for sure.

Piazza putting on a mini-catching clinic with a nice foul ball pop-up to
end the top o' the tenth.

Piazza due up.

Piazza goes 6-3.

Jacobs does too.

Edgy DC
Sep 20 2005 09:58 PM

Baltimore coming back in the Bronx, now down 10-6 at the stretch.

Metskies in the bottom of the tenth. Piazza up.

KC
Sep 20 2005 09:59 PM

I'm doing it again, I'll pipe down.

Miguel Cairo has replaced Anderson Hernandez on a double-switch as Aaron Heilman has come in for Roberto Hernandez and thrown a scoreless eleventh.

Cruel double-switch if your name is Hernandez.

Edgy DC
Sep 20 2005 10:20 PM

Marlins are on their fourth secondbaseman.

Alfonseca whiffs Diaz and the Mets now have two hits through 11 innings.

Mike Mordecai, the Marlin starter tonight three secondbasemen ago, has actually just arrived for the team after spending the season managing in the New York-Penn League.

Crazy.

Heilman makes up for a leadoff hit to Marlin 2B v.4.0 by getting 3 sexy outs.

Beltran, Floyd, Wright...

Sep 20 2005 10:36 PM

And I just realized I've been talking to myself.

Guess things (understandably) died down around here while I was on my little hiatus.

Hail Heilman! 3 Ks over 2 innings, including Miguel "Phenom" Cabrera.

Let's get one.

Beltran sucks.

0-5 tonight.

]Beltran sucks.

Has he proven it?

Double by Wright (hit number three!) and an intentional walk to Piazza leaves a big spot for Jacobs.

Sep 20 2005 10:47 PM

Yea Jake Monster!

The Mets Win! The Mets Win!

Jacobs doubles to right and BABY METS WIN!

Mike Jacobs, Professional Hitter.

Rotblatt
Sep 20 2005 10:49 PM

JAKE MONSTER!!!!

A single down the line drives in Wright from second and the New York Metrs have won the ballgame!

2 outs in the 12th, Wright laced a double into the gap, and Moehler walked Piazza to face Jake, who took two balls then a nasty strike on the inside part of the plate, then dribbled the next pitch up the first base line for the winning hit.

A very, very satisfying win.

Lets Go Mets!

Sep 20 2005 10:49 PM

Nice job by Jake, Mets make the hits count tonight, Jake is on the club house report sounding all juiced, good for him

Rotblatt
Sep 20 2005 10:52 PM

It's not fair to say Beltran sucks, I suppose. He's just . . . average.

Which is not what we paid for, but that's not really his fault.

Well, it is, but only when we lose. When we win, he's just a victim of circumstance.

So some serious kudos to Hernandez and espeically Aaron Heilman.

Mini kudos to Zambrano, too, but he wasn't nearly as sharp.

Edgy DC
Sep 20 2005 10:57 PM

I'm calling that a double.

I think Atlanta winning tonight cuts the Mets divison elimination number to one.

For posterity here, the strike was swinging, not taken, and the game-winning hit was solid, not dribbled.

Sep 20 2005 11:02 PM

Was it swinging?, I thought it was a terrible called inside strike that Jake looked at, anyway Delgado is a horrible first baseman, looked like he didn't care on two plays tonight, I mean at least try and make a play .

Rotblatt
Sep 20 2005 11:05 PM

Thanks for the correction. I'm working off the radio and sometimes I don't visualize so good.

Or hear so good, I guess. I could've sworn that Gary said the ball was "dribbled."

Anyway, still a great win!

Edgy DC
Sep 20 2005 11:08 PM

]I thought it was a terrible called inside strike that Jake looked at...

Actually, I'm sorry. Double-checking, it seems we're both wrong, and both right. He followed off a jammer and then took the next for strike two. His hit was at 2-2, not 2-1.

ted Robinson brought up a good point on that play, why was Delgado playing so far of the bag on that play?

Valadius
Sep 20 2005 11:15 PM

I love that we're all calling him Jake-Monster now. This is the first time I've ever come up with something that stuck.

Sorry I missed the game - it's Rush Week here at GW.

Frayed Knot
Sep 20 2005 11:18 PM

There was both a called strike and swinging strike there.
The sequence was:
- Ball 1
- Ball 2
- Swinging strike on a high/inside pitch Jacobs had no business going after
- called strike 2 on an outside pitch Laz Diaz has no business calling a strike
- then the game winner which was neither smoked nor dribbled but kind of a semi-hard grounder in the right place. Delgado isn't exactly the most mobile guy in the world and that may have cost the Marlins both the Mets first and last runs tonight.

Edgy DC
Sep 20 2005 11:22 PM

Now, nobody said smoked.

]why was Delgado playing so far of the bag on that play?

'Cuz he's a loser. I noticed that too. I think somebody told him to play the line, but spoke to him in Spanish, so he refused.

metirish
Sep 20 2005 11:24 PM

LOL..that's cold...and yeah he is a loser

Rotblatt
Sep 20 2005 11:26 PM

So does Cliff Floyd get consideration for a Gold Glove? Or is it impossible for a left fielder with a reputation as an indifferent fielder to get one?

He probably deserves a little consideration, given that he leads all outfielders in assists and has only made two errors so far--the same total he had last year, but in 29 additional games. I think he had 16 FRAA, which strikes me as pretty darn good. I'd have to look at what other guys have done, but I imagine that's pretty close to the top of the league.

Jones will get one, and Edmonds probably will too, so it's almost certainly not gonna happen, I suppose . . .

Edgy DC
Sep 20 2005 11:29 PM

Jones is several heads down on the fielding totem pole by now. Until they force voters to vote for candidates at the three different outfield positions, it's sort of an empty argument.

I missed this one, and it was my loss.
Just read the recap.
Damn good game.

By the way, I don't mean what I said about Delgado. It was just fun to say.
