IGT - 9/22/05. Trying to Fry the Fish Again

ScarletKnight41
Sep 22 2005 07:32 PM

No IGT in the bottom of the 2nd? We suck!

0-0 after two. Mr. Wright made a really nice catch to end the top of the 2nd. Dontrelle Willis is batting 7th. Fran thinks that Cliff Floyd has a lot of confidence in his fielding this year.

Someone help me out here....

I figured i was going blind or something when I didnt see the IGT.
Well, I cant actually watch the game anyway so I have the MLB Gameday thing running.

Willis hitting 7th. Desperate times.
Pedro plunks Dillon, Pierre singles and steals 2nd. Uh-oh

Edgy DC
Sep 22 2005 07:38 PM

Ramon Castro does a Piazza jobbie and lines one out to left-center. One apiece.

It seems like Castro homers in most games I look at on MLB Gameday. At least this one and the Phillies game (the tease before the storm).

EDIT- Image waaaaaay bigger than I intended
EDIT v2.0- that image was a pain in the ass, screw it

The Castro home run landed right on top of where MK and I were standing for most of Sunday's game.

Sep 22 2005 08:12 PM

Adino doubles and Pierre sacs him to 3rd.
mmmmmm.Mckeon had him sac the other night too.

Guess ol stogey plays leave it to Delgado

Zvon
Sep 22 2005 08:15 PM

Fortunatly Willie intentionally walks Delgado.

Unfortunatly Encar..... doubles in a run......

Zvon
Sep 22 2005 08:35 PM

cant see the game....you talkin bout Conine's triple?

Edgy DC
Sep 22 2005 08:47 PM

I think it may be the hook for the season for Pedro Martinez, and they'll be one more chance for Zambrano.

Edgy DC
Sep 22 2005 08:49 PM

The Aflac Trivia Question asked for the first Met to hit 40 homers.

One of the men in the Florida booth guessed Kevin Mitchell.

HA.
wasnt it Hundley?

Edgy DC
Sep 22 2005 08:54 PM

Yeah, Hundley.

That's pure speculation on my part.

An announcement in the press box said that Pedro was pulled because of pitch count, not because of injury. He had only thrown 75 pitches, though.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 22 2005 08:55 PM

Yes - the Conine triple didn't have to be.

Piazza pinch hitting with two on and two out.

Willis drops behind 2-0 and gets a visit.

Sep 22 2005 09:21 PM

Yeah, but Dontrelle has dominated Floyd, and we Jones has done the job this year.

But we've gotten to him once.

Sep 22 2005 09:29 PM

my bad....that was a reliver.
Wright reaches on error.
Fish makin alot of errors these days.

Cairo, of all people , ends it.

EDIT^^--that had to be Castro, i guess. My eyes must be going

Still,....NO SOUP FOR HIM!

Diaz is pretty agile, and has gotten a lot better in the outfield since early
season. Hat-ing Diaz for that triple is a reach. He is a fourth outfielder at
best right now on this team if everyone is healthy.

Lose the hat.

Edgy DC
Sep 22 2005 09:39 PM

Judging the offense so decisively based on a Dontrelle Willis game is a reach also.

Zvon
Sep 22 2005 09:48 PM

well,.....I just hope Wright starts kaboom'in again.

Ill settle for afew more dingers from him over the remainder of the season.

Not much to report. The crowd was calling for Mike before his pinch hit appearance, and went nuts when he climbed out of the dugout. I didn't hear a single boo when he struck out either. He woulda got massacred last year for that strike out. I'm going to miss him when he's gone. Anyone else down for a Piazza/Jacobs platoon next year?

Quickest game I've ever been too. The Met hitters looked awful all game.

Diaz looks as slow as frozen molasses.

Elster88
Sep 22 2005 10:48 PM

Oh, and they did another Mike Piazza memory: his homerun off the top of the camera tower in center on 8/21/01.

Elster88
Sep 22 2005 10:50 PM

Didn't Hojo hit 41?

Frayed Knot
Sep 22 2005 11:12 PM

Diaz didn't do anything wrong on that ball - like take a new and interesting scenic route to the destination as he sometimes does - he just never got there. Sure Cammy puts that in his back pocket, but I can't kill Diaz for missing it.

Piazza's getting the send-off greeting from fans - all of whom will deny ever booing him for not winning the triple crown in his first weeks here.
Which got to to thinking about players over say the last 5 years that have NOT had a significant segment of fans hate them at some point: Olerud, Fonzie, Wright, Reyes, Pedro.
Then there's the list of those who have felt the wrath: Everyone else.

Edgy DC
Sep 22 2005 11:24 PM

I'm so OK with Wright --- and this goes double for Jacobs and Diaz --- not getting more homers. It can be dismaying when a young hitter comes up as an all-round hitter, with his power cut developing relatively late, but then gets a few home run trots, likes them, and leaves behind the broader ability and approach that they climbed the ladder with.

Wright is perfectly welcome to keep doubling to right center and walk away with a team record. The homers can then come as pitchers adjust to him and he to them.

Rockin' Doc
Sep 23 2005 07:14 AM

Well said, Edgy.

As long as they keep trying to drive the ball, the home runs will come. If they start trying to pull everything and swing for the fences, generally a slump will ensue.

Rotblatt
Sep 23 2005 08:34 AM

I totally agree, Edgy. FWIW, Ted Williams, for example, was never really a home run hitter. He was a line drive man who happened to hit home runs.

Not to suggest that Wright will be anywhere near the hitter that Williams was (Williams was hitting .406 when he was 22 & had 91 career HR and 120 2B already), but I'm all for Wright taking a page or two from his book.

Tough loss. I'm glad I missed the whole thing. I hope our offense rebounds tonight.

Edgy DC
Sep 23 2005 08:42 AM

I more fear that this is happening with Diaz.

He won two batting average titles in the minors before his power stroke came. Right now, he's a .259 hitter with occasional power.
