Mets delayed, Yanks delayed, Sawx delayed ... weather doesn't look par-
ticularly good for the next few days either.

Ill be upset if this game is rained out.
Harry C says so will the Phils.

Love Harry Kalas. What a voice - he's a throwback to the olden days of radio announcers.

Let's cue up the 1974 highlight film.

Harry is one of the best.
No doubt.
He still talks so fondly about Richie Ashburn and you can tell he really, really misses him.

Voices like him and Bob Murphy will never be replaced.

During the rain delay, CCsportsnet is showing a Darryl Strawberry interview/special.
He said early on he had "marriageaile" problems.
lol.

Actually this is a very interesting and honest look at the man.

Zvon
Sep 26 2005 07:49 PM

It doesnt look good right now.
Its pouring in Philly.

They really want to get tis game in though,....so we'll see.

In theory, this system is supposed to blow out of here soon.

In the meantime, I'm watching Comedy Central. I'm catching the end of A Mighty Wind, and I'll watch The Daily Show rebroadcast from last week.

The Red Sox game is called , a double header tomorrow, Schilling will start the night game and then start the last game of the season, I'm listening to the FAN and when did Ed Coleman turn into such a prick,he's full of scorn for just about every caller, yeah I know most callers are asking for it but Ed fucking Coleman sounds like Francesa.

Edgy DC
Sep 26 2005 09:09 PM

Turn it off.

The Philly channel is showing the pitchers warming up and the players stretching out, etc.

Zvon
Sep 26 2005 09:36 PM

The Phils are suckin the moisture off the field as I type.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 26 2005 09:44 PM

And we're off!

Zvon
Sep 26 2005 09:48 PM

"...and with two outs that brings up the dangerous Cliff Floyd."

Cairo singled...Floyd HBP.

2 on, 2 out...
Wright at the plate

Sep 26 2005 09:52 PM

Dang, I would go to bed and listen to this on our local Phillies station, but I brought the stereo downstairs for the holidays last week

ScarletKnight41

Holy Hell - Rollins homers off the first pitch to extend his hitting streak to 31 games and to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.

Edited 2 time(s), most recently on Sep 26 2005 10:11 PM

OMG

Rollins with a lead off kaboom to break the Phil record hitting streak......wow.

105 yr record........wowwwwwwwwzers

Edit^: I guess he only tied that record.

That cracked me up.

Jacobs knew very well he was off the bag on that. Ump didnt see him try the swipe tag, I guess. A break for the Mets.....but....

Utley smacks a standup double off the wall.

Hope the Mets brought their hittin sticks.

Zvon
Sep 26 2005 10:10 PM

Jacobs with a bead---

Burrell singles in another in the 1st, if not for a real nice play by Jacobs and a nice grab by Beltran it could have been worse.
Phils up:2-1

Zvon
Sep 26 2005 10:24 PM

I wasnt in front of the TV for that inning, but it says Rollins doubled (at Sportsline), and drove in Lieberthal.
So was that the hitting streak record?
Im fallin asleep here.

3-1 Phils

Edgy DC
Sep 26 2005 10:25 PM

Two things I'm seeing way too much of this year

1) Shattered bats

2) Checked swings called for strike three.

Edgy DC
Sep 26 2005 10:37 PM

Cliff is clubbing it foul.

Straighten it out, Cornelius.

Edgy DC
Sep 26 2005 10:46 PM

Tying Ed Freaking Delahanty.

Wow.

Edgy DC
Sep 26 2005 10:53 PM

Diaz caught leaving early.

By a righthander.

Bad.

Frayed Knot
Sep 26 2005 10:53 PM

Victor Diaz still has many, many rough edges that need smoothing before he's a bonafide everyday player.

Zvon
Sep 26 2005 11:27 PM

I fell asleep here in the chair. I was out for a half hour, lol, cripes.
Ill have to read up tomorrow.
Cant hang...nite guys

Box score is ugly. Is Seo as bad as his line looks?

Edgy DC
Sep 26 2005 11:46 PM

Well you may be missing a beanie war. Graves came in on five weeks rest and promptly plunked two batters.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 26 2005 11:46 PM

Not to be unfair to Seo but I think games like this are what worries the Mets about him. If he's not precise and really on top of his game he can really get hammered.

Phils didn't get much cheaply, and in fact may have done more damage but for a bad call in the Mets favor when Jacobs (replays showed) came off first to take a throw.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 26 2005 11:52 PM

Well, at least Ishii looked OK, and helped his inherited-runners stats.

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:02 AM

A hanger and a double by Cairo. Mets have the tying run at second, no out, and Beltran up.

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:04 AM

Utley boots a ball like he's auditioning for the Mets secondbase depth chart, and THIS GAME IS TIED!

metirish
Sep 27 2005 12:04 AM

WOW..Mets tie this thing up,Urbina again has trouble with the Mets, tow errors on that play?

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:08 AM

Floyd just hit the ball so hard that they felt it back at the factory.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 27 2005 12:09 AM

Jeez, did Floyd crush that ball. Straight line off the scoreboard, so hard it was only a single, Beltran to 3rd, Wright up, still no outs.

Not for nothing, but the Mets could wind up being the team that kills Florida, Washington and Philly hopes for the playoffs.

metirish
Sep 27 2005 12:16 AM

Wright out, Big Mike at the plate, Piazza HBP....crazy shit in this game, Ice runs for Piazza....I can't keep up.. the ducks are drunk for Jacobs...holy hell...

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:16 AM

Gerald Williams on to pinch-run for Piazza.

Cool matchup. Madsen. v. Jacobs.

400-foot sac fly.

metirish
Sep 27 2005 12:17 AM

Jake again does the biz, sac fly to plate Beltran..3 RBI for jake

Frayed Knot
Sep 27 2005 12:19 AM

Gary was implying that Abreu mis-played that Floyd hit but there was no way he was getting that.
That's Floyd's 3rd single off the wall in something like the last 10 days. 2 were hit that hard, one was bad baserunning by Beltran.

Jacobs goes to the wrong part of the park - but gets the go-ahead Sac Fly.

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:20 AM

Heilman get another He's-not-my-closer-so-don't-say-he-is shot?

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:24 AM

I don't like always calling it defensive indifference. It's not the ninth, the run matters, and they were holding Williams at first.

metirish
Sep 27 2005 12:26 AM

I'd think so Edgy, great AB by Mink here, Ice steals second, 2 & 2 on Mink..fouled off again , Doug again fouls it off, Leiberthal nearly makes a good play into the dugot, again Doug fouls, 10 pitches this turn at bat...ball 3 on a change-up..caught him for a strike 3..great AB

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:29 AM

Roberto Hernandez takes the mound in the eighth. Aaroon Heeiilmaan up in the pen.

metirish
Sep 27 2005 12:31 AM

Hernandez in to pitch, Gary tells us that the Giants have taken the lead against the Padres 3 to 2, Winn tied it with a homer and Snow followed with a home run, Giants leading in the 9th..WOW...great series there.

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:31 AM

Either an interesting development or a managerial oversite, but Jacobs stays in the game, rather than Mientkiewicz.

metirish
Sep 27 2005 12:32 AM

Mientkiewicz never gets in now for defence it seems, Bert mowing em down...

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:34 AM

Yabbut he was in the game anyhow.

Reyes stabs a drive and we go to the ninth.

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:37 AM

I haven't seen Lofton go get it like this in years.

metirish
Sep 27 2005 12:43 AM

Bert to close this out, Armando closes the game out for the Giants, only 3 out with 3 still left against the Padres..amazing

metirish
Sep 27 2005 12:46 AM

Two down, Bert is on fire ...extra base hit for Utley....fucker

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 12:47 AM

Pat
Burrell.

The Mets. They're doing this.

metirish
Sep 27 2005 12:48 AM

Walking Abreu to get to Burrell, he has never had a hit against Hernandez.....

And it works..WOW...

Spacemans Bong
Sep 27 2005 12:53 AM

Mets win.

Giants STEAL one from the Padres and keep the dream alive, baby!

The Giants are the new 73 Mets.

I keep hearing about Rollins breaking the Phillies team record for hitting in consecutive games.
But what team was Pete Rose playing for when he set the NL record?
I though the was with the Phils at the time.

I can't believe I went to bed after the seventh last night.

I suck.

A happy, happy recap to wake up to, however! Nice job, everyone!

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 08:36 AM

Pete Rose hit in 44 consecutive games in 1978 with the Reds. He joined the Phillies the next season.

It's one of those conveniently forgotten facts that fly in the face of a quasi-fact. Pete Rose supposedly "taught the Phillies how to win," but he arrived in 1979, and the team dropped to fourth after three first-place finishes, and shed a manager, before winning the whole enchilada in 1980.

Clearly they were missing Richie Hebner.

Danny Ozark only got 56 more games replacing Frank Robinson with the mysterious 1984 San Francisco Giants. In a world of retread managersI can't think of another guy off the top of my head who so seemingly earned another chance and didn't get one.
