Reyes has three hits and a steal.

He led off the fifth with a double to left center that could have been at triple, as Lofton was off-balance playing it. He didn't have that cycle fever.

The Mets have really settled back into a very good groove the past week or so; I'm looking forward to next year. Always nice to feel that way.

Reyes' double to right field would have been a triple too if it needed to be.

I have to admit, I've been over at the Sawx game when I saw they were up
again and the Yanks were struggling. Rock on, IGT ....

Two out, two on in the fifth, and Randolph lifts Zambrano one out short of a victory and brings on his new LOOGy --- Kaz Ishiii --- to face Ryan Howard.

CZ has given up four walks, but he's also been scrod by three errors.

Ishii gets out of it on one pitch. Mets still lead 3-2.

Lieber's helmet looks like a tribute to Rainbow Man.

Miguel Cairo saves himself from a double switch by looping a 1-2 into center. Kaz Matsui pinch-hitting for his countryman. First appearance in 11 days.

Piazza is out of the game, apparently, though not necessarily, having re-injured his hand.

Hope you said goodbye.

Reyes has his triple, leading off the seventh.

What a night. Eight total bases for you keeping score.

Lieber whiffs Anderson and pops up Beltran. They're walking Floyd to face Wright. Hasn't he hurt the Phils in the pass for doing that?

KC

I'd rather have doubles if it means late slides and taking out the third base-
man's leg with your shoulder. Scary and ugly.

Wright gets the pitch-around walk. Castro has been clutch. Can he continue?

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 09:11 PM

Castro whiffles on a pitch off the plate.

You know, I really thought he got hit by the throw

Rollins gets a hit in his 32nd straight game. A new record..

>>>You know, I really thought he got hit by the throw<<<

He knocked down Bell with a shoulder to the knee. Not a high percentage
take-out slide for the guy sliding.

>>>A new record<<<

What was Ralph's story about the former owner of the record being found
at the bottom of Niagra Falls ... I had to miss that but heard him start it.

Ed Delahanty, one of baseball's best --- kicked off a train in upstate New York for being disorderly, and went and got himself dead.

For decades boys were raised on the Delahanty story as if it was a great mystery. "What befell baseball's great Delahanty?"

As if thieves set upon him. Likely he drank himself into the river. Or jumped from a bridge.

HYOOOJ out by Padilla popping up Abreu, while Randolph resisted using Hamulack. Now on to Burrell.

He was talking about that last night as well.

As much as I love Ralph, I doubt that he'll be back next season :(

Shades strikes out Burrell to end the inning! Wow!

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 09:26 PM

Wow, indeed. Slider just off the plate away. Burrell chased it.

UUU gets them in order in the eighth. Heilman coming on for the bottom of the inning for the Mets.

Edgy DC

Comes back from 3-0 to fan Howard. Bell and Pratt to follow.

either Willie is going to see if Aaron can handle a two inning save situation or ..... Looper? Graves?
I'm afraid to even think about it.

EDIT: Of course, this is based on the supposition that Willie has learned that RH can't pitch every day. And I'm not really sure he has learned that lesson - he's only been burned twice thinking that this season.

Heilman gets another big whiff on a change.

Mientkiewicz on to play first.

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 09:49 PM

Beltran 1, David Bell 0

Mets out of it.

Wow. September ball.

Sep 27 2005 09:51 PM

Looper's last game was Sept 21. What's the Mets' record since then?
4-1
Coincidence? I think not

Iubitul
Sep 27 2005 09:53 PM

wow. what a throw by Beltran.

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 09:56 PM

Nobody up in the pen. It's Heilman.

KC
Sep 27 2005 09:57 PM

>>>Wow. September ball.<<<

I'm happy as a clam as the Sox won two today and the Yanks are getting
spanked and Marlins and Phils kinda suck down the stretch ... but "Wow.
September ball" is the last thing I'm feeling. It's nice to see all this timely
hitting. Funny thing about that word timely.

Lets go 'stros!!!

OE: I thought the second Red Sox game was over, I got some bad info.

Fun to see peeps leaving it all on the field.

Edgy DC
Sep 27 2005 10:08 PM

A walk and a stolen base has Utley the tying run on second. 1-2 on Abreu.

Heilman gets him! The Mets win!

Nice game tonight. I wish we'd seen this from our boys three weeks ago, but I'll take it now!

If you folks get a chance to see this on a highlight show (assuming you haven't already) see if they use an angle that sticks w/Carlos after he releases the ball. He put so much into that throw that he did a complete flip after he let it go. Great fuckin play. A bit risky (for both sides really) but great none the less.

Great win, these past ten days or so has shown that this team still has a lot of fight in them, does Heilman's success out of the bullpen ask more questions or is he the answer as the closer?, at the least he should be in the mix.
