Emmy Awards

I didn't watch them and don't really care...except for this nugget:

South Park won for best animated show under one hour.

I never would've suspected it back when I saw Mr. Hanky bouncing around on tv back in '97.

What animated show is an hour or more?

I dunno, but, if you want an Emmy, I'd suggst producing one.

Until last night, I thought Lost was just another reality show, and therefore ignored it. Now that I learned that is is a drama series, I think I'll give it a looksee.

I still can't believe there is a better drama series than House, nor a better actor than the star. I remember James Spader as an annoying, nerdy twerp, as in Mannequin. Is he really that good?

I pay zero attention to televised awards shows so maybe I'm the wrong person to comment here ... but is there anything dumber than the Emmys?

All I know is that I hear that some show was nominated for like 18 Emmys and I'm thinking ... not only am I suprised that there ARE 18 different Emmy categories but that there are that many categories that this one show is eligible for!!!! What are these for: Best left-handed female director in a half-hour sit/com revival run on a Tuesday?
Seems to me that if you DON'T win at least 2 little statues then not only should your show be immediately canceled but everyone associated with it should be run out of town.

And then all these stupid local news programs are always touting the fact that they won X number of Emmys so don't even get me started ...

I'm not surprised by the number of categories. There are a lot of people behind the scenes in the production of a television show. In addition to actors and directors, there are writers, set designers, lighting and sound technicians, costumers, and a whole lot more.

The main thing wrong with the Emmys isn't the number of categories, it's that the voters aren't all that informed. Personally, I don't much care who wins or loses in the majority of cases. But what's not fair is that a popular show like Desperate Housewives will get nominated for things like makeup and lighting when there may be dozens of less prominent shows that might have better makeup and lighting. The awards should be for "outstanding achievement in a show that the voters bothered to watch."

I'm surprised by this. I thought the voters were people in the industry who knew all the different shows.

The only awards show really worth watching is the Tony Awards. Theater people know how to put on a show.

That said, I'm an Oscars addict, but I concede that it's usually not much of a show.

As for the Emmys, I didn't bother watching. They don't do anything for me.

James Spader is great in Boston Legal, but I'm surprised that Keifer Sutherland didn't win.

24 shouldn't be best show, but Sutherland is certainly good enough to be best actor. The show is so implausible it's sometimes downright stupid. But he's fun to watch. I would have been okay with him as best actor.

I've never seen Boston Legal, so I have no idea if Spader is worthy or not.

I have seen House, and it's pretty good. I find Hugh Laurie to be kind of annoying, though. I wouldn't have voted for him.

I watched most of the show, hate to admit it but I enjoyed it, the host was Ellen DeGeneras who didn't hog the stage like most hosts, I hate that shit, hightlights were the David Letterman led tribute to Johnny Carson and the special awards given to Brokaw/Rather and Jennings for contributions to News.

Letterman was great in his speech about Carson, very heart felt, he himself got a huge applause when he came on stage.

It was his second award in a row.
Lastyear, he won the award for playing the same role in a limited appearance on Boston Legal.
This year, his charachter became a regular and he won again for best supporting actor.

Go figure.
