Juan de Padilla.
This Spanish cleric was a composer who wrote primarily motets and villancicos. He served as a choir master at Coria Cathedral, and the cathedrals of Zamora and Toledo. Padilla also wrote an eight voiced Magnificat for more than one choir.

Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla

Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla was one of the most important composers to emerge from Spain in the seventeenth century. Born in Málaga in 1590, Padilla had arrived in Mexico by 1622; it was there that he carried out the bulk of his compositional activities. As choirmaster at Puebla Cathedral, Padilla produced much sacred polyphony, including masses and motets; his secular output consists mainly of dozens of villancicos. Padilla's music is notable for its inventive contrapuntal and spatial effects and rhythmic verve.
