IIRC they didn't like the results of his physical and backed away. Would it have been better if they discovered an injury and signed him anyway?

It's FUBAR I tell ya! I don't mean to poop and walk, seriously. Life unfortunately intervenes. Wish I didn't feel this way abou the team I love wither.

I guess some breaks are going the Mets way this year. I'm liking how this team is coming together so far, still waiting on who are 5th pitcher will be though. I'm also assuming they'll still sign some sort of catcher so I don't have to watch Santos anymore

Ken Davidoff sez that the Mets were concerned about getting hammered by the fan base for not signing Molina. I can't read the whole article due to Newsday's online subscription policy, but here it is: http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/ ... 13706?qr=1 I'm hoping that the rest of the article describes an approach that will favor their own judgment and disregard that of the hysterical fan (or hack columnist as proxy for hysterical fan). They seemed to take their own path in the Molina negotiations to good effect; at the very least it could help them hold the line in negotiations with other, more valuable players.

Giants fans? Loving this. As evidenced by the 1270 "congratulatory" comments (!) over at Giants blog McCovey Chronicles following the signing. (I have to admit that seeing things like this don't exactly abate my relief... and give a nice perspective-approximate of what it's like to watch our struggles from the "outside.") SC: Pretty damn high.

Especially because they are in a similar situation to us, having a hotshot catching prospect for whom the Molina signing would be dialing back the ETA clock. Except their shot is hotter.
