Cory Sullivan, ending his Met career --- for the time, being anyhow --- with a minor league contract with the Houston Astros.

Trying to think of glory, but just coming up with a hole where those memories would otherwise reside.

In other shitty OF news Jeremy Reed, off to Toronto as per Metsblog.com. Also a minor league deal... for a guy with minor league talent.

In lieu of glories, pedestrian memories will do.

We've totally remembered Reed. But my main memory of Sullivan is that, depsite being stuck behind Reed in the depth chart, he gave us more than Jeromy did in half the roster time.

Would have been a good 4th OF. A good CF that knew how to play LF (i.e. caught the ball and didn't crash into the CF) and, unlike the guy who will start the year at CF, always threw to the right base.

I remember a game where Cory Sullivan flied out to left field and I thought to myself that if Cory's shot had traveled another 35 feet, it might've been a Home Run.

Cory has no grade point average

I seem to recall him having a few good games when he arrived and nothing after that.

I remember a couple of key triples early on, and I remember JCL coming up with "Hotline."

Frankly, I remember the nickname more than I do the guy.

Re: Stories of Cory's Glories

Instrumental in the evanescent revival of the SHaMs, particularly in the first game of July 30's day-nighter (2 for 4 with the triple) when the Mets pulled to within two games of .500 after 100 games. Their losing their next 41 of 59 wasn't particularly Cory's fault.

The night before, a satisfying 4-0 win over [crossout:d21htzy6]future Met[/crossout:d21htzy6] Jason Marquis, Sullivan batted sixth, Schneider seventh, Cora eighth and Pelfrey ninth. My friend and I agreed Marquis would have rightly hit ahead of all of them in the Met lineup.

I'm still waiting for the spread in the Irish Echo regarding Sullivan's exploits , if he had gotten a run of games I'm sure it would have been written.

Rats, there goes my plan of getting an official Cory Sullivan jersey.

That won't happen but a Notre Dame football or Sein Fein update would work lol

Re: Stories of Cory's Glories

I had a Putney Swope commercial moment* when I read that Cory was second on the team last year with 5 triples. (To Pagan's 11)

Later

* if you don't know what that means, see the movie.
