This thread title put me in mind of the "anatomically correct" Archie Bunker's Grandson Doll, which I can honestly say I have never seen but knew existed. Joey Stivic pictured in all his, uh, glory here. In any event, I have my doubts as to whether Omar is autonomically correct in his assessment.

You'd have to give me triple-digit odds to take the former. What exactly did he say, K, and in reaction to what? (Also... if he's riding ice that's as thin as most of us presume, what's he supposed to say? "I have no control over anything anymore in this position. If you have money for a bus ticket and the name of a shelter, I'd greatly appreciate your help?")

Nothing's happened since to change my mind. I'm just sayin' that I ain't no bandwagon jumper, on this topic. For example, I thought the Wilpons sucked in 2006, when the Mets ran away with the division and were the National League's best team.

Same here ... only it's pertinent. Yes, it is pertinent. But at the same time is seems that the source of whatever is being thrown up there as "proof" -- proof that either Omar is in fact the 'decision maker' (as GWB would say) or that he's nothing more than a stuttering dummy with Jeffie's hand up his back -- actually has little proof other than a vague feeling and an already made-up mind as to who's to blame and simply cherry-picks whatever tidbits support that predetermined conclusion. So, until someone actually goes on record with something more concrete than "I hear sources are saying", I remain bored with the topic.

I don't remember exactly when. And I don't know if I'd describe him/them as intransigent. Olerud preferred to play in Seattle after the 1999 season, but did not rule out returning to the Mets. Still, merely matching*, but not exceeding the Mariners offer to John Olerud is a checkmark against Wilpon in my book.


*The Mets matched the Mariners offer of three years at $18.75M, knowing that they needed to surpass the M's offer, given that Olerud's family resided in Seattle and the first baseman's desire to be near his family was a major factor that favored the M's. On the day that Olerud eventually signed with the M's, Seattle increased its offer to $20M. Olerud signed with the M's before the Mets ever had a chance to match the final offer.
