Anybody know what SPK might mean? I was reading a book, and that was a text message the main character got to end the book, and I don't know what it means, so I don't technically know how the book ends

Was that the initials of one of the characters?

Re: Text Speak

No, it was that Mr. Dixon book you sent me, and remember, it ended with him excitedly waiting for hours at the airport for his girlfriend's plane to land, and when it finally did, she wasn't on it, but just texted him with "SPK". I'm kinda hoping it's short for "I'm a royal bitch, and you deserve much better than me, Israel, and I deserve to get an itchy itchy rash on my ass which flares up during staff meetings", but I can't really work it out to mean that.

I wish I remembered the book well enough to offer you a better explanation.

Re: Text Speak

Maybe it's the airport code for Spokane.

Re: Text Speak

As in "I accidentally got on a plane to Spokane"?

[quote="themetfairy"]I wish I remembered the book well enough to offer you a better explanation.

Metfairy, it is the one about the mobile librarian in Northern Ireland who was in the department store when the owner of the store went missing, along with a bunch of cash. Israel was accused of the robbery and sets out to find the answers, hooks up with some guy who drives him in a van around Northern Ireland and they finally find Mr Dixon at a resort, along with his wife, of all people. Anyway, at the end he is waiting at the airport for his girlfriend from London to arrive by plane and the plane arrives without her. That is when he finds the text SPK on his phone. But I remembered it was in another part of the book too... ...the texting had t urned into a one way correspondence. "LO", he'd text. No reply. "LO?" No reply. "RUOK?" No reply. "RUF2T?" No reply. "PCM" No reply. "PLS" No reply. The most she'd ever text back would be "SPK" But they rarely did. Does any of that help?

Re: Text Speak

Probably just means speak. Or it's a mystery that'll be revealed to you in the fullness of time.

It means speak, and here is a nifty translator for such situations http://www.transl8it.com/cgi-win/index.pl
