What movie series had a "3" without ever having had a one or a two?

Rambo, sorta.

Shouldn't the James Bond series own this question? First twenty as one single series, and the last two, and one on the way in the reboot series?

I suppose that would be the answer, if "Thunderball" had been titled "James Bond 3."

Thunderball was the fourth one, though. Goldfinger was third.

Huh! You're right! I recently watched From Russia With Love, and it said at the end that James Bond would next appear in Thunderball. (At least, I think that's what it said. I'm really not sure at all.)

James Bond is the answer to a different, and perhaps more interesting question -- movie series that never used numbers. Die Hard would be another. Bill and Ted.

If you go back far enough, you'll find many film series that didn't use numbers. (Like The Thin Man, for example.) But once the numbering started, it quickly became the rule. I wonder, what was the first sequel to get a 2 in the title? I'll guess The Godfather Part II.
