In Praise of Felciano

As promised, I have a thread in which we honor the most persistent of Mets --- Pedro Feliciano, who is on his third tour of duty with the Mets, but you wouldn't know it from the back of his baseball card, as the Mets remain the only MLB team he has ever played for. Fact of praise of the day. Pedro Feliciano pitched to 242 batters in 2009, and 25 of them (a fat 10.3%) were either named Ryan Howard or Adam Dunn. What line did these two monsters put up against our intrepid hero? Well, before I tell you, dial 9-1-, because you'll only have time for one more digit before you hit the floor. .050 / .174 / .050 / .224. They had no RBI and two GiDPs. SuperLOOGy.

A soft rain like applause is sure to fall on Pedro this season. Seriously, it's hard to believe that he was around when Bobby V was.

Feliciano is interesting in that he actually got better in the second half of '08, unlike almost all of his penmates, and really kept it up though 2009. Throw-in in the Shawn Estes trade! That always kills me.

Cook was good and then got worse (to use very incisive analysis). Feliciano, 2010 pending, has gotten better. On the LHRP tip, Mark Guthrie had a very good year when nobody else was having a good year.

I like that once Guthrie began to suck it was revealed that he was pitching with a broken leg.
