Superbowl BOXES

You know you paid $10 to the office pool. Everyone post your numbers and if there are enough of us I'll put together a handy table so you'll know which scores help your fellow cranepoolers. In two seperate pools, I've got: Colts 6 Saints 0 Colts 5 Saints 5 (booooo!!!) Colts 9 Saints 4 Colts 1 Saints 9

Colts 1, Saints 1 Colts 2, Saints 9 Colts 6, Saints 4 Colts 5, Saints 3 Last year I won the 500, errrrr, points for the final score. First win ever.

C 7, S 9 C 3, S 1 C 4, S 0 C 1, S 8 I'm in two others but won't have numbers until the plastic is being pulled off the six footer.

Re: Superbowl BOXES

Colts 1, Saints 7 in my only box this year, so I'm pretty happy with that. edit: I recall there was a SB in college where I had 0-0 and won both the first and second quarters, then was in position to win the third. I looked it up, and it turns out I remember correctly; it was SB30 in 1996, and if the Steelers had snuck a FG in before the end of the third quarter, I would have had three in a row.

I don't get this. Surely those can't be the final scores.

Re: Superbowl BOXES

Never done boxes? You have a 10x10 square, and everyone buys boxes at, say, $1 a box. Then, once the boxes are filled, you draw numbers for each column (the Colts, in this case) and each row (the Saints). If the score at the end of each quarter ENDS in that digit for each quarter, you win some percentage of the pot. So this year, for example, if the Colts' score ends in 1 AND the Saints' score ends in 7 at the end of any quarter, I'll win something.

Never heard of boxes. Must come from a life of working in traditionally female professions.

Willets, you have to have seen a box pool at a bar at some point in your life ... no? There's a short article on the odds of the scores that win the most on page 2 of the NYT. It doesn't seem to be on the web- site though. Between the pools, the food, the commercials, the game really means very little to me and I enjoy the Conference Championship games historically that the Stupor Bowl.

Colts 7, Saints 0. Saints 8, Colts 4. I also have $1 on Blue being the gatorade color being dumped on the coach. It's the long shot. :-D

Re: Superbowl BOXES

I attended a Super Bowl Party at a friends house. I didn't get my numbers until the final squares were filled in approximately 20 minutes prior to the kick off. I ended up with Saints 3 Colts 4 and Saints 1 Colts 7. Needless to say, I was quite pleased with the final score since I was pulling for the Saints.

That field goal just before the end of the first half took money out of my pocket. Later

Re: Superbowl BOXES

I have never won on a Super Bowl box, but I did win in 1986 when I hit on game 7 of the World Series. Of course, I was happy for other reasons too...
