My ex wrote for the Philly Daily News during college, during which I traded rounds of shots a few times after work at the Pen and Pencil Club with her colleague Mister Mann Frisby. Went to middle school with Erik D. Redd.

Covering a College Republicans rally for Reagan in 1984, I interviewed a student who shared the same name as one of Reagan's opponents from 1980, John Anderson. Like his namesake four years earlier, this Anderson was an independent. Also, I once came across a press release in which a guy from Sweden had a semi-colon in his last name. Subsequent checking proved this wasn't a typo.

I went to high school with a girl named Julia Roberts. She was not amused by the annual jokes from teachers reading her name from the attendance sheet for the first time.

It's really a nickname that has gone by the wayside. It's a generational thing... every Dick I ever met was born in the 1950s or 1960s (or earlier). I taught with a few Dicks back when I was teaching high school in the late 1990s. You just don't run into that many Dicks anymore. (Unless you're Lady Ga Ga OH SNAP!)

I mean - geez, me or one of my relatives could have innocently been named Jerry a bunch of years ago and SHIT!! what a pain in the ass THAT would have become.

That's what I'm talking about. We've all had our pasts. But I thought it more fun to post some of these while they're happenin'.
