Zach Lutz

After watching Olympic ice skating, how could anyone not adopt someone named Lutz?
He's an infielder with some pop in his bat.

Re: Zach Lutz

Any idea how many you're up to?

Re: Zach Lutz

No.
But several of my older adoptees have either left the organization or made it to the majors, so I had to kick them out of the house.
Don't worry. Brad and Angelina's number is still safe.

Re: Zach Lutz

Its not like I'm scooping up all the top prospects. Just players I thought it would be interesting to follow. (The last two because of their names)
Many of them aren't on anyone's top 25 lists. And some that are, I adopted them before they were on any lists. (IIRC, I adopted one or two before they ever played a professional inning)

Re: Zach Lutz

Lutz must have been an old English schoolmaster in a previous life, because he is punishing the ball thus far in the young AA season.

12 games, .375/.519/.725-- the later two figures leading the league-- 11 BB/11 K, 8 ribbies and double-digit XBHs. And, for all the injuries and years in the system, he's still just 23. Phwoar.

Only thing is, we're a bit occupied at third. If the bat stays crackling, do you try him out at second?

He's a stocky 220+ pounds, my baby boy is.
I'm guessing either corner infield or LF for him.

Re: Zach Lutz

Lutz put on the DL with a fractured foot. The one bit of good news, if there is any, is that the injuries in Brooklyn during 2007 and 2008 were in the RIGHT foot. This is the left foot. Is that better or worse? I guess it's not a winning combination no matter how you slice it.

Re: Zach Lutz

Back from his stress fracture, Lutz is skating enough circles around the pitching in AA to make BA's 'Hot Sheet' for this week (at #12)

- Team: Double-A Binghamton (Eastern)
- Why He's Here: .500/.538/1.167 (6-for-12), 2 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBIs, 6 R, 1 BB, 2 SO
- The Scoop: After rehabbing a stress fracture in his left foot for about six weeks, Lutz made a triumphant return to Binghamton, hitting a home run in his first at-bat. Lutz made a rehab appearance at high Class A St. Lucie before seeing action in two games at Binghamton this week, but he picked up right where he left off before the injury. Lutz, who missed most of his '07 debut season with a fractured left foot, has 18 extra-base hits in 37 Double-A games this year, including 10 home runs.

Saturday, 7/31: 2-5, HR, 2 RBI
Sunday, 8/1: 2-4, BB, 2 HR, 4 RBI

4-9, BB, 3 HR, 6 RBI. Jesus, that's a weekend.

Eddie looked fine at third base this evening -

Not as good at the plate, though, as he achieved the dreaded Golden Sombrero.

Re: Zach Lutz

Don't know what's going on, but Lutz --- who's been as hot as David Wright has been cold --- was pulled in the third inning last night.

Re: Zach Lutz

He was pulled from the game after GIDP. I hope he didn't pull a hammy trying to beat it out.
I asked my guy at Mets Inside Pitch what happened and he hasn't found out yet. If I find out before I have to leave for work, I'll let you know.

Re: Zach Lutz

All he could find out was that is an "undisclosed injury, and he is listed day-to-day".

My Inside Pitch guy sent me this link:
At least it doesn't seem as serious as his prior foot injuries:

He also said he'd be attending the Bingy game on Tuesday to learn more.

Re: Zach Lutz

Got a report saying that not only is the foot ok (it was different from his prior foot injuries) but that he has been brought up to Buffalo to replace Duda.

His foot has apparently never felt so good.

Just ask Yogi Lutz.

And he never once asked the dad how he got that nickname? (Or did I miss it?)

Re: Zach Lutz

Zach Lutz is suffering “concussion-like symptoms” after getting beaned on Friday. That’s just too bad. My kid’s hitting .326/.417/.551 in 27 games in AAA.

Re: Zach Lutz

NEW YORK -- Zach Lutz is headed to Japan to play for the Rakuten Eagles, a sources told ESPNNewYork.com.

The 28-year-old third baseman was hitting .291 with seven homers and 37 RBIs in 227 at-bats with Triple-A Las Vegas this season.

He appeared in 22 games for the Mets in 2012 and '13, producing a combined .226 average and two RBIs in 31 at-bats.

Have fun kid. You'll always be welcome to stop in for dinner next time you're in town.
Best of luck.
