MFY's Douchebag Thread

I am picturing the "journalist" that wrote this getting all hot and bothered.

Winning brings A-Rod, Jeter together again

Once friends, then foes, Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter appear to be getting along famously these days. They drove here together yesterday from Tampa for the Yankees' split-squad 6-0 win over the Pirates. And they left together. Before the game they played catch and long toss together, ran together in the outfield and even walked into the clubhouse together along the right-field line at 12:01 after they were done with their early work while a group of Yankees were still taking batting practice. "They've definitely grown closer," one Yankee official said.

I think the buddy thing was always there, but it was professionally expedient for them to keep their distance. First for Rodriguez, then for Jeter.

Top Yankees executive arrested on suspicion of DUI
By Marc Carig/The Star-Ledger
March 09, 2010, 6:43PM
TAMPA, Fla. -- Mark Newman, the Yankees' senior vice president of baseball operations, has been charged on suspicion of driving under the influence.
According to the Associated Press, after Newman was arrested on Monday night, he refused to take a blood-alcohol test and was released on $500 bail.
Newman did not respond to a voice mail left on his cell phone.
The team released a statement on the matter on Tuesday night: "The New York Yankees do not condone this kind of behavior. We take this situation seriously and we are looking into the matter. We will have no further comment at this time."
Newman has been a member of the organization for 22 seasons, working primarily in player development.

Bbbbuttt, Your Honor, the punch missed and went 30 feet over her head.

From the NY Post 3/16/10

HOUSTON (AP)—Former major league infielder Chuck Knoblauch has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault on his common-law wife.

According to court records, Knoblauch entered his plea Tuesday in exchange for deferred-adjudication probation. Successful completion of his one-year probation could mean the conviction on the assault of a family member would be expunged from the record.

Knoblauch also was fined $1,000. Knoblauch’s attorney didn’t return a telephone call Tuesday.

According to a criminal complaint, Knoblauch’s wife told police he hit her in the face and choked her at their Houston home in September.

The 41-year-old Houston native played for the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals from 1991-2002. In 12 seasons, the 1991 American League Rookie of the Year and four-time All-Star batted .289 with 98 home runs and 615 RBI.

Re: MFY's Douchebag Thread

In walking across Dallas Braden's mound, A-Rod may have come off as unlikable, apparently dismissive, and generally giving off the waft of "entitled prick." Fair enough.

Teixeira, though? As seen here taking a cheap shot at a vulnerable third-string catcher making his first-ever MLB start-- a guy turned away from him who's not blocking the plate-- because the traffic-cop-looking-shriveldick's annoyed at getting plunked earlier in the inning, he's fucking malevolent.

The kid, Bobby Wilson, apparently suffered a Grade 2 concussion and ankle injury, and is headed for the DL. Congrats, Gritty. I hope you enjoy the fine and suspension.

Teixeira was probably just pissed because he had been plunked.
Or maybe it's because he's hitting .117

The act of plowing over the catcher itself wasn't particularly dirty but when he's giving you the plate it's not necessary.
In the end, I doubt he winds up getting suspended - and maybe not even fined - but it's exactly the type of play the Yanx themselves would scream about if it were to happen to them; How dare you do that to us!!

NEW YORK—The New York Yankees unveiled a new, lesser uniform at a press conference Tuesday in an effort to distinguish ordinary, run-of-the-mill Yankees from the "true Yankee legends who walk among us." "To have Javier Vazquez don the same pinstripes as Mariano Rivera or Jorge Posada is…well, it's unthinkable," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said as Curtis Granderson modeled the sterile, black-and-white uniform with a large, boxy, non-interlocking "NY" stitched across the front of the chest. "The untrue Yankees will wear a blank, unfitted ball cap until they have their big Yankee moment. They'll wear their last names on the backs of their lesser uniforms as a badge of shame." Anybody remember Bill Metsiac? Irabu was Bill's white whale. People would post "I met Bobby Valentine today!" and he'd respond something along the line of "Did you pitch him the idea about getting Irabu? He'd come really cheap and be useful given the right role out of the bullpen. I've been trying to phone in my idea to the Mets front office. I called Mike and the Mad Dog and they said..."

I don't know how Yankee fans can tolerate John Sterling.

Listening to WFAN and they played the 'Yankee Game Winning Drive' - or whatever the fuck they call it - and it happened to be Nick Swisher's homerun from yesterday. Sterling, as usual, was over-the-top embarassing -IT IS HIGH! IT IS FAR! IT! IS! GOOOOONE! OOOOH, THAT WAS FAAAR BACK AND DEEEEP OVER THE RIGHTFIELD PORCH, A TRE-MEN-DOUS SHOT! IT'S SWISH-A-LICIOUS!

'Swish-a-licious'? Seriously?

It must be how we felt when Francis X. was doing the Mets games, but Sterling is worse. Fran was cluless, obvious and had a really irritating voice but Sterling is just self-serving to the point of being inaccurate. Honestly it sounded like he was having an orgasm when he called that shot.

Between him on the radio and Kay on TV, if I was a Yankee fan I think I'd just play music while I watched the games.

Sterlng is certainly worse.

Add in that, judging by Facebook comments last post-season, Yankee fans seem to hate Swisher. It was like, they need a whipping boy no matter how good things are going, and he just drew the short straw.

Joe Girardi is a bollox , but you all knew that anyway

MINNEAPOLIS - Eight days after Joe Girardi protested what he believed to be an illegal pitching change by the Red Sox, he found himself the target of another manager's criticism.

Following Wednesday night's 3-2 Yankees win, Twins skipper Ron Gardenhire expressed his displeasure with Girardi, who sent Andy Pettitte to the mound for the ninth inning, then walked to the mound to bring in Mariano Rivera before Pettitte threw a pitch.

"You don't normally get that long in between innings to do all of that," Gardenhire said. "But that's a situation Major League Baseball needs to take care of. If your bullpen isn't ready and the starter goes out there, he should have to face a batter. That's just the way it should be."

Girardi defended his move, saying he was playing "within the rules.

"I have that option to send the starter out there to get my closer ready," said Girardi, who wasn't going to bring Rivera in until Nick Swisher gave the Yankees a lead with his two-out homer in the ninth.

Something was fishy about this though.
AJ was struggling in the 2nd and the Yanx got someone up in the pen in the middle of the inning.
He got out of the inning and the guy sat down. Then he struggled again in the 3rd and suddenly he was injured and couldn't continue.
If he punched anything it was after the 2nd but he was already in trouble before then. Sounded as if the injury were concocted or at least embellished so as to give the reliever more time to warm up.
Announcers - Albert & McCarver - wondered about a pie-ing injury from yesterday but were clearly speculating out their blow-holes.

He apparently told the trainer he fell between innings, then confessed to pushing open double doors with both hands, suffering cut on both hands. As if that's any more plausible. Girardi was bending over backwards to say how embarrassed Burnett was about it and insisting he wouldn't miss a start.

1. I like Sterling more than Raissman
2. The real heartbreaking news is here:

METS WANT HAGIN BACK
When Wayne Hagin left the Mets radio booth at the end of the season he was a man without a contract.

However, unlike the Yankees, the Mets pay more attention to their WFAN booth. Mets brass wants Hagin back working with Howie Rose.

The FANdroids and Hagin's agent are currently in discussions about his return to the booth in 2011. The Mets contract with FAN expires in 2013.

The more I stare at this, the more it seems like a koan that I don't get.

Jim Leyritz was acquitted of manslaughter. The only conviction was for DUI, a misdemeanor (!).

Re: MFY's Douchebag Thread

Thing was that his victim was clearly intoxicated too. I'm left wondering if being out on the streets at holiday time in the late hours in Fort Lauderdale, you're taking your life in your hands --- that an unthinkable percentage of drivers are out there under the influence.

It might be lower, of course, if they elevated the seriousness of it above a misdemeanor.

Peyser's generally pretty terrible, if I recall correctly.

But her subject's a little worse.

"My life was dragged though the mud because I was a Yankee. I got tried because I'm an athlete! There was a good chance I was innocent!"

... he saved his most pointed barbs for his victim -- a waitress and mother who died as she headed home from work in Florida at 3 a.m. three years ago, her Mitsubishi Montero struck by Leyritz's Ford Expedition as he left his birthday bacchanalia.
"I knew the girl," he revealed. "She was a dancer at one of the nightclubs."
So was Fredia Veitch, 30, a stripper? I asked.
"I don't like to use the word," he said, chuckling. "She's a party girl."
"There was no reason for her to be in the intersection at 50 miles an hour, with a .18 blood-alcohol level, her husband bombarding her with text messages. Probably what happened is she got distracted."

I'd agree, even though I hate Peyser so much that I stopped reading her years and years ago. I wouldn't read Peyser even if I'm certain that I'd agree with her particular column: I fear that I'd end up disagreeing with her even when I shouldn't, solely because of my hatred for her. Sometimes I think that she's the unhappiest, most miserable wretch ever to report news.

She seems like the kind of person that really, really likes her cats, but really, really can't stand anyone or anything else.

She might like her cats ... if they were celibate. But if Andrea were to ever find out that her cats like to get it once in a while, those cats would end up on her shitty kitty list.

Peyser may be an awful writer, but she landed the kind of quotes most reporters dream of. My God, Magnum!

I'm sure he'll get a nice long ovation at this year's Old Timer's Day.
