Whether you believe in that "rule" or not, all bets should be off on a game-winner. Sorry guys, the game is over, and your feelings are no longer an issue.

If Zito wants to send a message he really needs to plunk about 24 more guys.

yeah, especially when the game is over. Wasn't their a stupid NFL (not that they're aren't a zillion of these) rule issue this season where someone did something to the Giants after the half ended and since the quarter was over the Giants automatically had to decline the penalty?

By contrast, showing good sportsmanship isn't bullshit.

I'm generally against the trend towards more 'check-me-out - over-the-top' type of celebrations ... but this one was pretty funny and the game was over at that point.
By the same token, Zito plunking Prince on the broad side of his broad body with a BP fastball in ST is just a not-so-subtle way of saying that the Giants remember the incident but it's not like there was a whole lot of menace behind it.

If the details of this thing were different I could see getting more riled up by it but, as is, it's mostly a non-story IMO.

It may be just a thiing, but eventually somebody is going to seriously hurt somebody else with a payback or purpose pitch, and it probably won't be a big-leaguer, but some kid in Rapid City just doing what the pros do.

This is still hilarious, and that may just be the best photograph I've ever seen on laminated cardboard ("french" playing cards included).

well, funnily enough, i suppose I'm a little hypocritical in the first place as I'm not mad on the whole set up celebrations as a rule (though that was a *VERY* good one), but joy in scoring is not bad sportsmanship, it's excitement.
I don't know, when I score a goal in football (it's rare enough mind) I'm so overcome with joy that I rarely know what to do but there's usually a lot of roaring and fist pumping and hugging. When Anderson (our Brazilian striker) scores he often does a little jig of delight (he does that a lot more then I do). But unless the games out of sight, every score is celebrated because it matters.

It's often said that scoring a goal is better then sex - now I don't think it's quite there, but you'd see why we get kinda happy about it.
Baseball runs are not QUITE as precious as football goals, but it's not like they're baskets either.

Exactly! If you think goal scoring is better than sex, it's because you haven't screwed Sean Estes.

I didn't say that I thought that goal scoring was better then sex, just that it's a common enough assertion.

But it is a great rush.
