Joggin for the Noggin

This is no NYC Marathon for the Tug McGraw Foundation, but...

When I was in high school I had a good friend named Matt. He was 2 years older than I was and took me under his wing and taught me a great deal about music, art and living life. He was my first roommate out of high school and was an all around good friend. He moved to Chicago in the mid 1990's and we lost touch with each other over the years.

This week I learned that Matt's dad Steve died last year of a brain tumor. Being my best friend's dad, as a teenager I had a fair amount of contact with Steve, who I had always considered a great guy. Obviously, I was saddened and shocked at his sudden death at the young age of 56.

You might be aware that I had a stroke last year, so I have developed a soft spot for neurological benefits. I feel that the least I can do for Matt and his family is walk 5 kilometers (that's 3.11 miles for you non-Canadians) in Steve's memoriam.

On April 17th, I'll be participating in the The Steve Bolser Memorial Joggin for the Noggin 5K Run/Walk. I have set a goal to raise a modest $200 for the American Brain Tumor Association so I am asking you all for any help you can provide. If the goal is not met, I will have no problem making up the difference, but if the goal is met, I will donate an additional $100 towards the event.

Obviously, I am asking my local family and friends for contributions...but even though I've never met any of you, I consider this a friendly place to be as I've been communicating with many of you for 10+ years. Because of that, I wanted to include you in my efforts.

No donation is too small and of course there will be no worries if you don't choose to give. Thank you for your consideration and hopefully your participation in making this event a success.

Re: Joggin for the Noggin

Anything related to brain tumor research gets the Tug McGraw Foundation seal of approval.

Best of luck to you TM! Let us know how you do.

Maybe you'll be so enamored of the process that you'll find yourself joining the CPF running team

Re: Joggin for the Noggin

I just might MF, I'm already looking into running an 8K next spring. For now, I think I'll be walking.

Thanks for your encouragement!
