Nelson Figueroa, rhp Josh Johnson starts for Florida and he will be starting on OD. It might have made sense to use Barajas as he will probably be starting on Monday so he could get a look at Johnson.

I'm thinking this is a chance Jason Phillips doesn't want to blow.

Mike Jacobs. Flash in the pan catchers turned firstbasemen. Jeez. They're all the same.

Apparently hit a ball that bounced off the bag, and then tore into a sprint and head-first dive into second (safe!).

Mets up 1-0 on a homer by Bay, who is suddenly looking like a guy.

It'll be nice rooting for a righty kill-the-fucking-ball power threat without said threat being attached to Gary Sheffield, who is just not obedient enough for my tastes.

Saw Bay's HR from yesterday -- mammoth pop to dead center -- and predicted to Ms. Bucket that I was going to enjoy watching the Mets this year. We shall see!

I swear when I saw "tore," I swallowed my thyroid. But as long as it's metaphorical, tear away, Jose.

Nice bounceback for the Chinless Wonder, with 3 scoreless. (3 Ks/no BBs.)

David Wright, who also looks like a guy, adds a solo shot of his own. Mets up 2-0 with Valdes and Parnell each adding a scoreless inning on top of Nellie's three.

Chris Carter's all, "Job opening, eh?" 3 HRs for our favorites off Johnson. 4 in 28 ABs this spring for Mr. Intensity.

Mejia coughs up a three. Don't like it, but it takes some of the stupid Mejeavy pressure off the Mets to carry him.

Re: IGT, Marlins @ Mets, 03/31/10

Your final is 6-3. Mejia gives up all three in the seventh, after throwing a scoreless sixth. Figgy gets the win, with three shutout innings. Two doubles in four trips for Mike Jacobs. Pinch homer for this Carter guy. Bay and Wright ding-donging. Valdes, Parnell, and Tak2.0 with shutout hold innings. Felicity with the save.

Feels good to get a win. Also, the sun just came out for the first time in 3 weeks.

Re: IGT, Marlins @ Mets, 03/31/10

Teams have been catching up to Mejia lately, so hopefully the Mets do the smart thing with him. If the Mets do the smart thing with Igrashi as well -- namely, ignore the contract he has and send him down -- their pen will be Rodriguez, Feliciano, Calero, Parnell, Nieve, Takahashi, and Figueroa. I'd like that pen a lot. The Mets have enough depth at the pitching position that they shouldn't wait too long to pull the plug on any starter who struggles badly coming out of the gate. If Murphy is hurt, the choice is between Carter and an "established" veteran who's "established" quite clearly that he doesn't cut it. I see no reason for debate.

The devil on my shoulder is whispering that they didn't want Figgy to look too good for too long. The Angel on my other shoulder is whispering that Jerry wanted to look at a lot of pitchers today. Which one should I listen to? Later
