That's a better lineup.[/quote:2bklcfog] Well, not by a ton. Tatis doesn't strike out as much but he makes more outs per plate apperance. And who knows if Tejada can hit. It's better constructed though.

Re: IGT--Marlins @ Mets, 04/08/10

at first, i thought it was a lot better lineup, till i realized that 3-8 were all rightys. i guess it makes sense with a starting LHP, but once the bullpen gets in the game, I'm guessing Jerry empties the bench of the lefty batters.

Re: IGT--Marlins @ Mets, 04/08/10

Enough about lineups. Our worst guy with a raging case of the Guadelajara monster-squirts is better than their best guy on his best day after a handful of those little black capsules I found in Lenny Dykstra's old foot locker. We fear nothing, but are a little squeamish around hairy bugs and shirtless guys asking us to hit them in the stomach with a bat. Play time is over. Play ball!

The Marlins looked so comfortable hanging on the inside portion of the plate, it was like they were planning to stay overnight. I wouldn't mind a little chin music from Niese to start things off. (It would also buy him a little inside-corner/outside-corner room to sneak his curve in for Ks.)

Just getting there now, and the Fish defense immediately introduces itself.

Deflected-ball singles and such got the Fish their run. Robertson and Niese have been more or less cruising-- with Niese putting out 2 fires not entirely of his own making-- since.

Jerry playing the matchups, gives Nieve the yank after 2 pitches and 1 out. Whatever. I blame Tony LaRussa for all this bullpen overmanagement bull-SHEET.

This Mets team looks very similar to last years. The design of the dimensions and wall height for citifield had to be done by the mad hatter or some stupid shit. I hate this fucking stadium. So there..
I blame Tony LaRussa for all this bullpen overmanagement bull-SHEET.[/quote:2ulxgnmr] That situational pitching stuff changed the face of the game (and the makeup of rosters) forever. Maybe the subject of an entire thread, but I just got home from work and am tired. Later

Re: IGT--Marlins @ Mets, 04/08/10

We already knew the butt end of the lineup was sketchy: When the meat can't produce (and vs. a lefty I was shocked Robertson survived three turns through) I think we should expect trouble. Checked out the park, met Hahn Solo for the first time and KC at McFadden's (no atmosphere, music too loud, but works as a meeting place); dug the new look including the newly laid brick for my dad; experienced the typical 30 degree difference between CF and the rest of the East Coast of the USA (srsly, had to move it was so cold in the breeze in out CF seats). Next time.

Re: IGT--Marlins @ Mets, 04/08/10

On the plus side, if you had to move seats, last night was the night to do it. There were some left field sections that had maybe a handful of people and that was it. Nice seeing the changes made to the park. I loved the HOF (interesting conspiracy theory from a non-Mets fan: that the Wilpons held off on doing a HOF the first year because they worried it might draw attention away from the Rotunda), and McFaddens, while loud and lacking any kind of charm, is well-staffed and a much-needed meet-up spot.

I'll bet the Mets pitching is more or less fine if they don't go casting off any more Figueroas.

Although, to be fair, a good portion of the aforementioned dread is located in the gloves playing Pip to Maine, Perez and Pelf's Gladys. (Niese's backing crew wasn't particularly on-key last night, either.)

Among the sources of these estimates? MerkinFace McShakyHandontheTiller, hisself:
"I think an honest assessment is that we have to be somewhat concerned. We had some setbacks and some inconsistencies there last year, so we can’t just assume that that’s going to be lights out. We have some questions there." This was after Game 2.

Re: IGT--Marlins @ Mets, 04/08/10

That said, I didn't mean to unduly diminish my praise of Niese's job last night-- Jonny the Nose was damn fine last night, actualmente. Between the Wright/Tatis awkwardness in the first and Maybin's seeing-eye single trickling past Castillo in the fifth, his line could have-- and arguably, should have-- included 1 runs and 5 hits instead of 3 and 8. He challenged hitters, moved the ball around... and the HanRam strikeout with Maybin on was impressive (if eventually mooted). I mean, he busted the reigning league batting champ in on his hands. That's hard to do.
