Let the bloodletting commence. Garrett Mock v. Mike Pelfrey

It's a new season. Time to beat the crap out of the Gnats on a daily basis

Ceetar Apr 09 2010 12:21 PM Re: IGT, 9 April 2010, Nationals at Mets |
I'll be in attendance to mock Mock. section 524, row 10, seat 3. Although since I'm going alone I'll probably just roam randomly around the stadium. maybe I'll take a picture of Pelfrey from 13 different angles.

Makes sense, he "breaks up the right-handers" no matter where you put him.

Interesting names in their lineup-- Zimmerman aside, it's like the Island of the Misvalued Toys. Desmond's intriguing, power/speed-wise, and his glove seems to be improving (a pretty good asset for a shortstop).

John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 09 2010 05:54 PM Re: IGT, 9 April 2010, Nationals at Mets |
Hello? Pelf had a helluva 1st inning but gave up a 2-run, 2-out triple to the 8 hitter in the 2nd. Frenchy hammered a HR to make it 2-1 after 2.

bmfc1 Apr 09 2010 06:12 PM Re: IGT, 9 April 2010, Nationals at Mets |
Extra Innings and mlb.tv are blacked out in the DC area when the Mets play the Nationals. I tried to listen to the vapid Bob Carpenter and moronic Rob Dibble, but that lasted for two innings. Carpenter said that Shea is now "a nice parking lot", which hurt, and Dibble said that the Mets lineup doesn't have batters that scare a pitcher so this is the Nationals chance to win games in the NL East. I'm now listening to FAN via mlb audio and it doesn't bother me that it's 5 seconds behind.

Nice play by Cora to end the frame.

Excellent play by Cora... and a blast by Rod-B!

[quote="John Cougar Lunchbucket":cvhsv7lb]Rod swings his big stick and ejaculates the ball over the left field fence[/quote:cvhsv7lb] I believe this is the first ejaculation nod of 2010. May Jose Reyes add to the total with many similar esplosions!

With two men put on at the back end of the 4th, Mock tries to give the Mets a gift. They ungraciously decline.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Apr 09 2010 07:02 PM Re: IGT, 9 April 2010, Nationals at Mets |
Gloveitude in the 5th. -- I like Cora at second a lot more than I like Cora at short. Nice play at the top of the inning to smother a GB and get Harris at first. -- Wright makes a nice snag of a Donkey popup to end the inning.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 09 2010 07:07 PM Re: IGT, 9 April 2010, Nationals at Mets |
Wright made a pretty shitty play there.

Did Pagan double clutch or just hesitate because he assumed that the runner wouldn't go?
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 09 2010 07:13 PM Re: IGT, 9 April 2010, Nationals at Mets |
I think the latter is more like it, he basically tried to fake Willingham from running but he didn't buy it.

WOW! Four dingers. Frenchy and Barajas x2. Nice. After Pelfrey let those first two runs in, I had the pit in my tummy that visited often last season. Have to keep reminding myself, it's not 2009.

Young Ruben certainly looks smooth enough on defense. Tonight's probably the last we'll see of him for a while but that's all for the best for now. Be nice if he could sneak in a hit before he goes. John Sickels had some nice stuff to say about him today in a section on SS "sleeper" candidates: iow, guys too young or without enough of a track record to get a high grade yet JS: Ruben Tejeda - Mets, 20 years old -- hit .289/.351/.381 with 19 steals for Double-A Binghamton. Good defender, makes contact, could draw more walks eventually. I like this guy quite a bit and he has significant breakout potential.

Happy to start an IGT for a game that's going so well, enjoyed the taters. Nieve works around a walk, middle 8th.

So that's four games and three perfectly acceptable starts from our "sub-par" rotation. I'll be pulling for Ollie tomorrow.

Jerry making clear in the postgame that hitting four homers sends a message to the team that they don't have to manufacture every run. I prefer that it sends that message to him, but I salute the message.

Pelf turns it on after a shaky start. More Rod-slamming and Frenching than a hotel's adult-pay-per-view selection. Smoove gloving from Sammich Tejada and Alex Friggin' Cora. I laughed, I cried, it was better than the last two games. Four stars!

Gwreck Apr 09 2010 09:29 PM Re: IGT, 9 April 2010, Nationals at Mets |
It was *miserable* in the wind tonight but that meant a very short line at the Shake Shack, so I guess that's something. Wright not running hard was pretty inexcusable. I would've liked to see Jerry argue more for a video replay but I didn't have a great angle on the ball when it hit the wall.

That Jerry put in as much argument as he did was more than the situation warranted and I'm sure the ump(s) told him right off that there was no need to even consult the magic machine.

D-Dad, Kase, KB and I watched the game from an Empire Suite because we attended the Gary, Keith and Ron Foundation function. It was a good night to be in a suite, and a fun game to watch :)
