Not Buying It, but Merely Reporting It

LA Dude suggests that Joe Torre is laying low until the Mets invite him back home.

He calls his piece "Anatomy of a Rumor," but it's closer to "Construction of a Rumor."

Dude

And that is where the Mets come in. With GM Omar Manaya’s reign almost assuredly coming to an end, a new GM will probably want a new field manager. Who better to restore the Mets franchise than Torre? And what better way is there for Torre to stick it to the Yankees after offering him a pay cut in his last negotiation?

Seo , take yer bike over there and slap this fella.....talk about making stuff up.

I could think of one man better than Torre to restore the franchise should that route be taken.

Eh. It would be weird to suddenly start rooting for him again after all these years, but if it happened we'd all survive.

I think if I were to make a list ranking how much I'd like to see a former Mets manager return, Torre would finish third, behind Bobby Valentine and Davey Johnson, but ahead of Yogi Berra and Bud Harrelson and Jeff Torborg and Dallas Green and Art Howe.

Interesting but yeah, more creation than anatomy. I think Torre's like 70 years old already, I'm pretty sure he'd be happy to retire at some point.

"Jerry doesn't have it anymore... maybe he never did. We need someone to stop this cycle of poor on-field management, especially odd lineup construction, starting and benching players based exclusively on hunches or small-sample-size performance AND weirdly rigid, overtaxing bullpen usage."

"Well, then... GET ME TORRE."

If we really want to stick it to the Yankees, which signing Torre would do, Mets roots aside, we should get Mattingly to be the manager.

Here's an idea: Let's stick it to the Yankees by hiring Willie Randolph. That'll do it.

Because the Mets will always win the comparison between the Torre managed MFY's of the late 90's-early 00's and the the Torre managed de Roulet Mets.

That won't work either. After his career ends, he'll be too busy healing the sick and raising the dead.

That would have helped last season.

Call me a glutton for punishment, but I'd love an 86-year-old Yogi, answering media questions with "Wha?" "Who?" and "Does that come with toast?"

Call me insane, but I'd prefer to Torre or Manuel a zombie Gil Hodges, making moves in a surprisingly simple system where every decision is boiled down to a series of binary questions, and those decisions are made by his reaching for plates of brains labeled "yes" and "no."

If we're bringing back ex-Mets managers, you can count me in the Valentine camp.

Worked out well for Art Shell redux in Oakland recently.

Having said that, I want Valentine too.

My vote is for Bamberger. I really liked his department stores.
