The Daily News has a trivia question in a feature called "Extra Innings" , perhaps Martino brought that with him, Martino btw blogs each game.

Gordon Richardson was the last Met to wear #41, immediately prior to Seaver. I'm sure of this much. I don't know the other 41's, though.

The last player I am looking for finished his Mets career 2-0 having pitched 40 innings as an 18 year old , never again appeared in the Majors .

I once met Ed Bauta, and asked him to sign with his Met number, and he signed #41. "Like Seaver" But I've never been able to confirm otherwise.
