Press box notes/Ed Kranepool record about to fall

MLB makes the press box notes available online, and they're often a fun read. Today, the notes show that David Wright is two doubles away from passing Ed Kranepool as the all-time team leader. HoJo is third, with 214.

Poor Eddie. Another piece of his legacy chipped away.

That's pretty cool.

As for Kranepool, he's held that record longer than anyone would have guessed. It's been more than 30 years since he played his last game!

As much as I think fondly* on the 'Pool, it's nice to see Met records pass from lifers to actual good baseball players.

*Since those who weren't actually, bodily around can't actually remember.

I agree with that. David Wright is more deserving of the crown, such as it is, than Ed Kranepool.

Looks like it will be a while before Eddie loses any of his other records: Games, at-bats, plate appearances, hits, total bases, singles and sac flies.

And, swing as David might, Ed will retain one very important claim to fame.

I haven't rolled this out yet, so consider this a sneak preview.

Here's where Ed Kranepool ranked at the end of his career.

Re: Press box notes/Ed Kranepool record about to fall

I posted a chart at least two years running showing the progress both Wright & Reyes were making towards various NYM career offensive records - although with the search feature here not working with older stuff I'm having trouble finding it/them.
Reyes already snagged both triples & stolen bases but his lost season last year screwed up some of the future projections.

I love that site!!!!

Oh, and when Wright gets that third double, I'm expecting the same breathless coverage as when Jeter got the MFY hits record. :)

He was also ahead of Wright in Hitsville and Runstown and now is not. He'll probably snag back the active runs lead given a few weeks of health.

This must be the first team record David claims (beyond all-around good guy-ness).

That beta UMDB feature is Da Bomb. Would have come in very handy when tracking the evolution of Eddie's team hit record when there was all that fuss about it last September.

I think he already has most total bases in a season.

The Gayest Commercial Ever record won't fall anytime soon.

Here is one of the Reyes/Wright 'projection' threads I was talking about.

I think I updated that at least once since this one but can't find it at the moment.

on edit: And here's the other:

Maybe I'll get around to updating this in the next few days.

I don't know, The Wright Forum actually does have a nice ring to it.

Well, either him or Reyes. I'm not sure. Some guy wearing seven.

Re: Press box notes/Ed Kranepool record about to fall

So where Krane's team doubles record can fall as soon as tonight, by the end of next season we could start seeing a whole bunch of NYM offensive records start to crumble.
Assuming good health and more or less average (for them) seasons, Wright could grab the all-time Met marks in: Total Bases (from Krane); plus RBIs, Runs, and Walks from Straw. Reyes - who already has Triples & SBs - is neck-and-neck with Dabidrye for most runs but will need four more seasons before stealing Eddie K's all-time longevity mark of most NYM ABs

These numbers should be up-to-date as of last night's disaster ... I mean game.
