While performing in school musicals, I was Joyce Kilmered for a while by Jule Styne (composer/songwriter, "Three Coins in the Fountain," "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," Bells Are Ringing, Funny Girl, Gypsy), until I saw a picture:

The staffer who wrote the press release needs to be fired ASAP, you shouldn't be working in this business if you don't know your opponent.

Chad Ochoseis Apr 02 2010 12:52 PM Re: Guys with Girly Names |
I've come across quite a few male Danas lately. I'm starting to think Dana may be bucking the usual trend of male name -> gender neutral -> female name.

I've always had Dana in the Lee category of who knows? But just as Lee Mazzilli transcends such categorization, so does our man at Hofstra, Dana Brand.

The lyrics to Simon And Garfunkel's A Simple Desultory Philippic Lyrics (Or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission) consist largely of Proper Nouns used as verbs. I been Norman Mailered, Maxwell Taylored. I been John O'Hara'd, McNamara'd. I been Rolling Stoned and Beatled till I'm blind. I been Ayn Randed, nearly branded Communist, 'cause I'm left-handed. That's the hand I use, well, never mind! I been Phil Spectored, resurrected. I been Lou Adlered, Barry Sadlered. Well, I paid all the dues I want to pay. And I learned the truth from Lenny Bruce, And all my wealth won't buy me health, So I smoke a pint of tea a day. I knew a man, his brain was so small, He couldn't think of nothing at all. He's not the same as you and me. He doesn't dig poetry. He's so unhip that When you say Dylan, he thinks you're talking about Dylan Thomas, Whoever he was. The man ain't got no culture, But it's alright, ma, Everybody must get stoned. I been Mick Jaggered, silver daggered. Andy Warhol, won't you please come home? I been mothered, fathered, aunt and uncled, Been Roy Haleed and Art Garfunkeled. I just discovered somebody's tapped my phone. I lost my harmonica, Albert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOvs3rCFI2A

Somehow I think that being "Phil Spectored" means something different now than it did when the song was written.

Reading about Mad Men starting back up in July reminded me of character actor Chelcie Ross. According to imdb.com that's his real name. When I last saw him he was playing a guy who most often went by a girly name, Conrad 'Connie' Hilton.

The song is a Dylan spoof - it's sung in about as close to a Dylanesque voice as Paul Simon can manage. In that context, it's actually a great line.
