Re: Happy Easter to all

May I ask a question?

Why do people say, "Christ is Risen" rather than "Christ has Risen"?

We went to a wonderful sunrise service on a pier that juts out into the Atlantic. It was a spectacular sunrise.

A joyous holiday to all!

In this phrase 'risen' is used as an adjective, to differentiate, or perhaps to describe Jesus after the resurrection. There are many churches, among just about all Christian denominations, known as The Church of the Risen Christ.

OK. I'm still not quite sure I get it, but thanks.

Re: Happy Easter to all

If you substitute 'resurrected' for 'risen' it is a bit clearer.

Re: Happy Easter to all

Saying "has risen" refers (or could) to an event in the past. He died, he rose, he went away.

"Is risen" is present-- he died, rose, and is still here.
